Malt-O-Meal, good for you?

I know this seems like a silly question, but is Malt-O-meal particularly healthy? It has next to no fat, some (though little) fiber, a nice amount of protein, Iron, Folic Acid, Calcium and B vitamins.

Assuming you don’t scoop heaps of sugar on it, a bowl of malt-o-meal with some milk, and maybe even stir in some egg whites or something for a bit more protein, good?

Or should I ask, is there any particular reason Malt-O-meal would be bad for you? It is very yummy, which is why I even have to ask, Oatmeal, in contrast, is pretty healthy, but tastes pretty bad plain.

It seems to be pretty good for you but as far as grains go I don’t think malt-o-meal (wheat) uses whole grains. You’d probably be better off finding a whole grain cereal.
I can’t seem to get enough of the Kashi line.

The good folks at NutritionData, give it fairly high marks.

Enjoy!

I like most hot cereals including Malt-O-Meal. For an alternative cereal, consider Wheatena.

20% USRDA dietary fiber, 5 grams of protein and only 1 gram of fat per serving. It tastes great and has an unusual, grainy texture that I really enjoy.

It’s far better for you than any kind of breakfast sandwich from any of the fast food places, or any pastry from a coffee shop – even if you “scoop heaps of sugar on it”.

And up here in Minnesota in the wintertime, a nice hot breakfast is appreciated.

here is a vote for cream of wheat and another for cream of rice.

I love Cocoa Wheats and Malt-O-Meal and such. If you are so worried about fiber get some Benefiber and mix it in. It is true you cannot tell Benefiber it adds nothing to the taste. You won’t know it’s in there
