I have been hit with some sort of exceptionally malicious malware that is causing all my search results to redirect to these bullshit corporate place-holder search pages, instead of going where I need them to go. If I use google, it all redirects to “go.google.com” and then eventually loads some bullshit page. If I use Yahoo, it goes to “go.yahoo.com.” Apparently a lot of other people have had the same problem and there are a lot of troubleshooting sites that seem to discuss this, but I can’t access them because - of course - clicking the site just redirects to the bullshit page. (I’ll have to use my laptop.)
If you can access it from the laptop, download the program onto a flashdrive and install it that way. Malware can be vicious that way…blocking access to the sites you need to get help.
Here’s the thread of my hijacking. Lots of good suggestions there.
If I were the king of America, anyone involved in the creation of malware or any other computer virus would be executed - by hanging, on the day of the sentencing. And I’m not kidding. I view it as being equivalent to treason because it interferes with the network that links our country together. Blocking peoples’ access to information is a violation of their civil rights. It would be one hell of a deterrent, believe me.
I’m hesitant to discuss the punishments that I feel are appropriate for these people, because I don’t want to sound like a psychopath. Suffice it to say, I honestly think they should be subjected to torture.
I’m not by nature a sadistic person and so I can’t say that I’d take any pleasure in doing it myself. But I’d be more than happy to, for instance, pull the lever that drops them into a cage filled with hungry lions.
More realistically, if they can ever actually find and convict the individual people who are responsible for this shit, they should impose a mandatory jail sentence of at least ten years in state prison. This would be a good deterrent, I think. Meth addicts or gang members are willing to take the risk of imprisonment when they’re doing whatever they do, but pasty little software nerds are NOT willing to take this risk. Send the first one to hang with the Aryan Brothers for a decade, and the rest of them will get the message.
Hanging is much to good. First maybe a couple years waterboarding, then maybe some cigarettes on the eyeballs, then … and then drawing and quartering.
Incidentally, you might try www.google.us. When I enter www.google.com I am redirected automatically to www.google.ca, but if I put in the us, I get the us version. Generally it matters little, but it just might work if the malware fails to recognize the address (it could be malign and stupid at the same time).
How is “go.google.com” a problem? Wouldn’t that be a subdomain of google.com, and therefore under Google’s control? I’m certain that nobody from Google is collaborating with the malwriters.
I imagine the average malicious malware maker to be a complete social inadequate, with laughable delusions of grandeur and a pathetic sense of injustice at why they haven’t yet been recognised for their genius. The only way they can garner any attention to their insignificant selves, is by being a total pain in the arse to as many people as they can.
That’s a virus maker you are talking about. Most Malware is economically based and a lot is from the so-called “Russian Mafia”. Viruses are just annoying, Malware tries to steal from you in some way. The worst kind steal your personal info then your identity, the “best” just steal your time.
