About 10-12 years ago, I had the annual screening mammogram and was told I had the beginnings of fibrocystic breast disease and I should cut back on caffeine, which I did for a while, but eventually backslid into my old habits of 2-3 cups of high-test coffee a day.
Fast forward to now. I have moved since that screening mammogram and am in a different health care system. I’ve had several routine mammograms and they’ve all been flat-out negative. Fibrocystic breast disease has never been mentioned.
So, why would I be told I had it 10 years ago but not now? Is fibrocystic breast disease something that can resolve on its own? Have the criteria for diagnosis changed? Has mammogram technology gotten better? Or is it simply the difference between radiologists reading the films? Just curious.
