Donating his hair is a nice gesture. He certainly looks much better. Imho
Has anyone told him that’s not a bootcamp buzz? Not even close. High and tight is where it’s at.
“People often tell us that they would have joined the Army but…well Future Soldier Arroyo has been growing his hair for 15 years and yesterday he decided to donate it to the Locks of Love foundation in exchange for a brighter future and the opportunity to become one of the most elite war fighters on this planet,” the Army said.
When I joined the Army and went to basic, this one guy had a really thick beard. Anyway after they shaved his face or had him shave it, I can’t remember, he discovered much to his chagrin that his face was covered with ringworm!
I beat him by 7 years. And several inches of hair cut off.
I’m not sure i believe his hair was 12 ft. long though.
The article said 150 inches. No way.
I haven’t cut my hair since the nineties, I think. Certainly more than fifteen years. My hair isn’t even long enough to sit on, let alone twelve feet long.
I’ve not cut mine in 20 years; it’s long enough to sit on if I tilt my head back just a tiny bit. The autoplay video says ‘down to his waist’ which looks about right from the pic. No idea where the 150" comes from.
I had hair down the middle of my back and did the donation thing. Some poor kid has my nasty hair! I’m growing back. Almost back to where I was, zo a couple more years, I guess.
I last cut my hair in 1997. This past spring I had 17inches cut off and donated to ‘locks of love’
I was sitting on it, now it’s at my waist.
Maybe they sectioned his hair into separate parcels. It looks very thick and bushy. Plus he cut to the scalp. Hmmm?
I went 3½ years without a haircut when I joined the Navy. This was in 1975. I was one of the first picked when we lined up at the barber shop. Not only was my scalp ghostly white but so was the top of my ears. Within a week the tops of my ears were sunburned pretty bad. Spent much of boot camp with white goop on top of my ears. Don’t know if there was any way to donate my hair then, it all ended up on the barbershop floor.
I didn’t cut my hair for about 10 years, but there was only so long that it would get to. For years it stayed at just about the same length, although I suspect that what this length is depends on the person. Part of it also might be how you take care of it; there might be some special tricks for getting it to grow longer. I didn’t care, I just didn’t want to pay for haircuts.
The trick to growing your hair long is to cut it regularly. The ends get dry and splitty so having a couple inches cut off every year or so you’ll end up with a crazy long mane. I stopped coloring my hair early in 2015 and it took about 2.5 years to grow all the colored part out–I kept it more or less just a bit below my shoulders until all the dyed parts had grown out then I just let it keep going. It’s down to the small of my back now and I really need to have an inch or two taken off because the ends are getting a bit raggedy. I’m thinking of getting part of it undercut at the nape of my neck and having the short section dyed indigo and purple–since my hair grew out a bright silver I’m thinking that would look pretty interesting and it’s easy enough to let it grow out if I don’t like it. I’ve never had really crazy colored hair but I figure it’s something everyone should try at least once.
