Now that summer has sort of started, I watched the movie “Jaws” to initiate the season. This is a weird little ritual I’ve had since I was pretty small- summer officially started in my family with a viewing of “Jaws”. And ever since, this is only a “summer movie” for me- watching it at any other season would be somehow wrong. Conversely, other movies are only for certain seasons- OTOMH, “The Blair Witch Project” is for fall, “Smoke Signals” is for winter. And then some movies just don’t have that sort of connotation for me. Does anyone else do this? Are certain movies or books associated with certain seasons to you, like some foods are? Or am I just insane?
Well, “The Life of Brian” has always been the Easter movie for me,
I have that sort of thing with video games, actually. Same thing with music.
The only time to watch Jaws IMHO, is in the summer. You are right about it not feeling right any other time of the year. Period films are best in winter, and musicals are best for spring.
The Wizard of Oz is for October, Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is for December and The Ten Commandments is (wierdly) at Easter.
Not so weird. It’s usually scheduled near Passover, which falls near Easter.
My new winter movie is “Ravenous”. It’s a really twisted one about cannibalism. Has David Arquette, Principal Rooney from Ferris Bueller, and Francis Begbie from Trainspotting.
Full Metal Jacket is the Fourth of July movie.
Hey, I love “Ravenous”! It’s a great movie, and definitely a winter movie- summer watching would be very weird. Also, “Gladiator” is a summer movie, but musicals are definitely for spring.
