Disfigured electrical worker gets a new eye and part of a face.
(1) U.S. man 1st to have whole eye transplanted from organ donor - YouTube

I can’t listen to the video right now, but I’m assuming this is a cosmetic thing and not a functional eye, right?

Well, he can’t see out of it but it has blood flow and is sending some signals with the optic news. It’s a baby step, but a big baby step.

I wonder how far down the line is before whole limb transplants.

We’ve been half-way there for decades.

The first replantation to be performed in the world was done by a team of chief residents led by Ronald Malt at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, United States in May 1962. Everett Knowles, a 12 year old boy, had attempted to hop a freight train when he fell and was thrown against a stone wall, severing his right arm cleanly at the shoulder. During the procedure, doctors reconnected blood vessels, including the right brachial artery, used pins to hold fractured bones together and employed skin grafts to reattach damaged areas of skin. After this procedure successfully restored blood flow to the severed arm, the nerves of the arm were repaired in September 1962, with full arm function being achieved within four years of the incident.

I read a brief article saying the man hoped to eventually be able to see with the transplanted eye. I don’t think the article quoted any doctors saying this was a realistic hope, though.

He should be careful what he asks for.

I’m gonna keep an eye out for that update.

mmm

Maybe we’ll finally get an answer to that old stoner question, “Does everyone see the same color when they look at something?”

Aaaaacccckkk. Visions of Frankenstein!!

Do you think he can see the typo in the thread name?

Not yet. but now that you mentioned it, we all can. Gaah!

Eye after eee…wait. Is that right?

Eye before eee?

In the story I read, the surgeon did not expect him to have sight in the transplanted eye, but said that it was remotely possible.

Someone forgot to cross all the t’s and dot all the…lower-case j’s.

“Eye” after “See” except after “Pee”?

…or when sounding like “ā” as in “Nabors” and “whey.”

You so cleaver!

Oh, dear.

The mis-spelling is enough to cause penis to ensue!

That has been shown to not be the case at all.
