Who here's had a body part reattached?

I felt it was time for a suitably gruesome poll. Happy Halloween, ev’ry body!

Anyway, like it says in the title: who here has had a severed body part surgically reattached, and if so, what was it? Organ transplants count as an “honorable mention.”

I, personally, can only claim the tip of my right pinky finger. And that probably doesn’t count, because there was still a small bit of flesh connecting it to the rest of my hand. And it probably still had a blood supply, to boot.

So…anyone else?

My lower lip, when I was 10. I was in a car wreck without a seatbelt and bounced off the windshield, smashing my lip between the glass and my upper incisors. There was a small strip of skin at either end holding it on, but definitively not enough to have sufficient blood supply because the reattachment was unsuccessful. They had to go in and reconstruct my whole lip.

I’ve had 4 tendons and the medial nerve in my left wrist reattached. So, a good deal of my hand, but I’m truly happy it didn’t get fully severed!

I completely severed the tip of my left index finger. My wife brought the chunk of flesh to the ER in a plastic bag filled with ice. They sewed it back on, and I’ve still got some feeling in it, though it looks a little strange.

Some nice Doc put some of my toes back on for me after he took them out of my boot…lol, oh the memories.

OK, you have to tell us more about that one.

(Almost as good as the story I got from a guy at the airport that started “When I was run over by a tank…” Yes, he really was, but it’s not what you think. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to reattach detached bits for him.)

My left ear…I was born with NO earcanals whatsoever. As a teen I had atresia surgery. They cut off the ear, and then reattached it. Pre surgery I’d been able to wiggle both ears…now I can only wiggle my right.

Well, secondhand story if that’s Ok…my ex bit his own tongue off when he was 12 or so. He remembers sitting in the ER calmly (he says it didn’t hurt) while his family freaked out. It was reattached.

Twice! and not only that, but the parts weren’t reattached where they came off!

Of course, they didn’t so much “come off” as “get taken off”, by the surgeon who then as planned reattached them somewhere else, so this is probably more of a runner-up/honorable mention.

Man, sometimes I really love this board.

Weren’t me, unfortunately, but one of my aunts dated a guy, oh, 15 or 20 years ago whose fingers were all slightly shorter on his left hand–he’d had them reattached after an accident with a saw.

This one begs for a little more detail, if you’d be willing to provide it.
