I can’t believe he didn’t save the second one for later.
Maybe they’re like Pringles. Once you pop, you just can’t stop.
/Slashie to be an asshole.
I suppose it’s better than if he had ripped her eyes out after she had AGREED to sex. That’s some foreplay I’m just not seein’…
She wouldn’t be seeing it either… :smack:
Phil Hartman, aka Vicki:
Now this is something the other tour guides won’t tell you. In this particular cell-block, Machine Gun Kelly had what we call in the prison system, a “bitch”. And one night in a jealous rage Kelly took a make-shift knife or “shiv”, and cut out the bitch’s eyes. And as if this wasn’t enough retribution for Kelly, the next day he and four other inmates took turns pissing into the bitch’s ocular cavities. (short pause) This way to the cafeteria!
Your fuckin’ killing me
You know what they say about those Morrocan/French arranged marriages, It’s all fun and games until…
You, know there’s a certain illogic and tackyness in claiming to be offended at “recreational outrage”, and then spamming “RO threads” with mockery of the victim. Not only is doing so disgusting ( why mock the victim, and not the poster if it offends you so much ? ), but it’s the best example of “recreational outrage” I can think of. At least ripping out people’s eyes is something that deserves outrage. Finding humor in someone being crippled like this is rather sick.
Agreed. In the previous discussion decrying these types of threads there was much comment about how posting your disgust at some heinous crime was a mark of mental illness. Is making jokes about ripping a woman’s eyes out the mark of a well-adjusted individual? That kind of humour can be funny in the abstract, but I find it less so when applied to a real-life case.
Probably better adjusted than the people who go into palpitations over the Daily Outrage. Getting that worked up, that regularly, about people with whom you have no relation can’t be good for you. Joking about it, on the other hand, demonstrates a healthy distance from events you have no control over, and which do not effect you in the slightest.
If there was a true story behind the script to Rashomon and it had been posted in the pit, many would deride it as “recreational outrage.”
Well, it’s not as if she’s going to read the jokes herself.
No, really, what I mean is that stuff like this, although it may appear callous, isn’t actually doing the subject any harm. Also, refraining from making jokes about it will not make her eyes grow back.
And ‘well adjusted individuals’? Boy, you came to the wrong place…
Well, that was random.
Sorry Miller, it just seems to me that all this ire and downright hostility towards RO threads is being wasted for the people actually posting them. I’m much rather be able to read everyone’s witty stuff in the places they want to be rather than in some (any) thread that they basically find disgusting. Yanno, a win-win situation.
And what I meant was labeling stuff is in the eye of the labeler.
So . . . if someone makes a movie out this story, this thread will retroactively be upgraded?
Actually, you make an extremely important point. Say a guy reads a story in the newspaper about an atrocious act of violence. He:
A) Posts a three-sentence RO thread at an internet forum
or
**B) ** Uses it as the basis for creating a great piece of art about the human condition
Guess what response will get you pointed and laughed at? This is exactly the point of that we who are tired of these RO thread are trying to make.
If I was next to two guys in the lunch room at work, and one of them said “I just read about some guy in thye paper who ripped his wife’s eyes out because she wouldn’t have sex with him! that’s awful”, and the other guy said (taking an example at random from the thread), “it’s not like he fucked her in the still bleeding sockets or anything”, I’ll give you two guesses as to which guy I, personally, would think is “better adjusted”.
Didn’t you already say pretty much exactly this in your previous post? You think people who joke about tragedy are somehow maladjusted. I disagree. You posting exactly the same thought twice isn’t going to make me suddenly change my mind, or anything.

[li]I said IF it were a true story that the movie was based on, and since it’s been so highly acclaimed, it just seemed odd to me that a real world application would end up with it being labeled as irrelevant (or whatever encompasses the ubiquitous RO).[/li][li]I’m also not an advocate of the ‘three line,’ content-free or frowny face only posts. Some substance, in my humble opinion, is required.[/li][li]I didn’t mean to give the impression that I was lobbying for any great pieces of art, certainly not about the human condition or anything else earth shatteringly important. What I was intimating was that too much X (time/heartbeats/perspiration) is lost by being in a thread tha tyou don’t wish to be and the participants could do without the condemning over.[/li][/ol]
Finally, ridiculing anyone to prevent behavior seems to be a poor choice to facilitate change. I would think that the suggest to group all such threads in one place would be as good as collecting up all those who vehemently oppose. Again, everybody wins and no one has to be degraded about an opinion. Yours or theirs. Surely there are better things to be ‘outraged’ over than what’s posted on an internet message board by someone you don’t even know. I’d save my feelings for something that mattered. YMobviouslyMV.
Yes, yes I did, with an example added for illustration. Sorry for wasting your time, which I’m sure is quite valuable. Your identical reply to my identical reply, however, has cleared the scales from my eyes, and I thank you for it.
YOU FUCKING FUCKWIT UR FUCKING FUCKED-UP LINKS DON’T FUCKING WORK, YOU FUCKING FUCKER YOU. THEY ARE NOT REAL FUCKING LINKS AT ALL ANYWAY AND YOU SHOULD BE BANNED YOU FUCKING FUCKHEADED FUCKWAD.
Oh, wait. I get it. Heh. Never mind.
