Managing email across multiple devices

So, I made it up to step 9 above, then gave up on saving anything from my POP3 account. Verizon prevents access to the Samsung Cloud and then, quite logically, does not backup many Samsung apps. So I just removed the POP3 account and established the IMAP account.

So step 10 next!

It took most of an evening to set up my first IMAP account (on my PC). Last weekend I had spent about 2 hours in chat with my cable/internet provider (rhymes with rectum), which I shall call Evil Cable Company, or ECC, trying to get the server settings for my email domain’ IMAP access. After 1st level ascertained I could access webmail and pronounced the problem solved, I escalated and the 2nd level, after about an hour of not understanding, grudgingly gave me the information. So, of course, when I tried these settings, they didn’t work. This prompted another marathon chat, which resulted in completely different servers and settings, which also didn’t work. At the end of another two hours, 2nd level “help” told me that the problem must be with my “third party client” (ThunderBird!) and dismissed me with a cheery you’re welcome message.

I went on the Mozilla boards, and surprise! There were a half dozen threads on the same problem. I tried two potential set of server settings and after a bit of wrestling with ThunderBird’s auto select of ports and security, one of them worked! (completely different than any settings documented anywhere else!)

So, thanks everyone for advice and elucidation. It’s a brave new world for peccavi.

You, sir, have a very high level of pain tolerance.
