Bad shit comes to my town. 2 dead, 24 hurt so far.
Latest word I’m hearing on the local news is that they know where the gunman is, but that’s all we know. The video footage is scary.

Christ, that sounds like a machine gun.
I live on the other side of the airport from Mandalay Bay, about 2 miles as the crow flies. I can see police cars with flashing lights blocking the corners at the two major cross streets near my house.
I just saw some other footage on the news that shows very clearly the muzzle flashes. They’re about ⅓ of the way up from Mandalay Bay. The concert venue is across the strip and a bit north of the Mandalay Bay hotel, so a clear shot. The gunshots are really loud, too.
LMPD (“Metro”) was supposed to have a press conference at 12:45am, but it hasn’t happened yet.
A nurse who was attending the concert described what she saw and did, helping wounded people and she described helping two people and moving to a third area and seeing lots of dead bodies, like 6 of them, all young people.
The shooter is dead and unofficial police sources say the death toll is over 20. It would be a miracle if it doesn’t go much higher after sustained automatic gunfire into a crowd of 40,000 people.
20+ dead and 100+ injured according to the press conference.
100+ injured. At least 20 dead.
Police are looking for a 4’11" Asian female named Marilou Danley.
The shooter is dead; he [del]is[/del]was a Las Vegas resident.
I have some friends staying at the Mandalay Bay this weekend. I’m not to worried about them, pretty sure they ain’t at this concert.
I know its the Daily Mail but they quote a witness celebrating her 21st birthday saying thstbthete was s Latina going around telling people they were all going to die.
Actually, that’s a remarkably coherent and comprehensive article.
Even has the license plate numbers and car models they are looking for. Awesome set of photos and videos, too. They really did a fantastic job considering that this happened only 4 hours ago.
All my best to you and the rest in Las Vegas. Hope u stay home till they make sure there aren’t more shooters. It just sounds odd that someone could get a machine gun into a Strip motel. Was it a submachine gun or a full on 50 caliber? Why would he do it?
Mass shooting on Las Vegas strip, dozens of casualties
A pic of the lady. A lot older than I would have thought.
This thing was loud. I’m not a gun guy but I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this was a 50. Reports are that he reloaded like 15 times, so he had clips and from the sound of it, they were big ones.
I’m sure details will be forthcoming soon.
You could easily fit a disassembled M-249 SAW or even an M-240 GPMG (FN-MAG) into a regular-sized suitcase, not to mention a fully-automatic rifle like an AK.
It’s especially sad that, along with the tragedy of thinking “oh shit, another mass shooting?” we have become so divided that, as we wait for info on who the shooter was, some Americans are probably saying “I hope it wasn’t some white supremacist or ant-Muslim nut” and the others are thinking, “I hope the shooter wasn’t a minority or antifa member.” While I’m politically predisposed toward the latter camp, frankly I hope it proves to be a lone nut with NO discernible political or religious ideology whatsoever. We don’t need any more divisiveness in our country.
My money’s on a bump-fired AR-15, not a true automatic. Listen to the variation in shooting rate. An automatic wouldn’t sound like that. Bump firing (a spring-loaded stock that bumps the trigger on the rebound) will have that variation. Another possibility is a rotating handle that mechanically hits the trigger. The variation comes from the rate at which you spin the handle.
Are you actually allowed to legally buy something like that?
No. That doesn’t mean they’re not available.
I was thinking along similar lines; legally acquiring fully-automatic weaponry in the U.S.A. is a non-trivial exercise; the M-249 and M-240 types Alessan mentioned are, to the best of my knowledge, not legally available for civilian ownership/purchase (outside of, perhaps, law enforcement agencies); I’m not even sure military-grade, fully-automatic AKs are, either.
