Is there a why yet?
I find it mildly odd that this guy lived like eight miles from Bunkerville. Probably means nothing, really, but it seems odd.
Heard/saw some report early on that he had converted to Islam 30 years ago.
Pretty girls have been controlling older guys for thousands of years.
What is the significance of the broken window on the far right in the pictures looking at the hotel? Did he shoot from there also?
Why was no contact info taken from the people who were saying “people were going to die”? LEOs are spring loaded to the , “Show me some ID.” position IIRC.
I read that he rented two rooms. Not sure if they were adjoining, but it would seem odd if they were not. Apparently he did shoot out of both windows.
THANK YOU! Its as if they don’t realize that accuracy can and does take a hit and it some cases, the power, from using a ‘suppressor’ (THE PROPER TERM, CLINTON) and it would still be quite audible given the caliber of weapons used. What an idiot. Couldn’t wait to turn this into something political instead of a tragedy, which is purely what it is, regardless of the tool used to do it.
CNN is reporting that he shot at the SWAT team through the door before they breeched.
Went to bed last night hearing of 20 deaths, woke up to 50 or more.
My sympathies to anyone caught up in this horrible event. It’s truly sad how much pleasure some people take in destruction
“Silencer” is what the people reading will understand and is the appropriate term to use in speaking to the masses in shorthand instead of in-depth, IMO. Secondly, accuracy isn’t so much an issue here, since there was no specific person targeted, as far as we know. Thirdly, I’m sick of “don’t politicize it!” - when the hell can we talk about political actions that could feasibly mitigate the number or severity of events like this? Are we never supposed to actually reference events that have have happened? In the wake of such events is when there’s will enough that change is most likely to happen (both for good and for bad).
I actually don’t have a position on silencers, but I loathe the “don’t dare discuss making changes to laws right now!” that happens every time a mass shooting occurs. The people saying that don’t seem to think it should ever be discussed, and if it is, we should never, ever reference real tragic events that might not have happened if laws had been different.
I think the NRA is jizzing their pants over this, if not actually behind it - they must be beside themselves with glee. It’s all about the money. They don’t care if people get killed, it’s all. about. the. money… Their god in the white house is 100% behind them. Millions of scared sheep are running out to arm themselves. There are no restrictions any more, any one anywhere, any time, can run into a store and then strut around armed to the teeth for ‘protection’. And of course, they can lie and spread fake news (it’s already started) how it’s the fault of democrats/Obama/Hillary. They have it MADE, I imagine the NRA bigwigs are wallowing in cocaine and champagne, making Trump-level money after each tragedy. After, of course, sending thoughts and prayers to the relatives and survivors.
TzigoneThat is fine, but politicizing something should have its time and place. We should be concerned with the victims and their families at this juncture. Not the politics behind it. On to facts;
‘Suppressor’ is the proper term because it suppresses the sound and muzzle flash in most cases, not fully, not enough that you wouldn’t know someone was using it. They don’t work like they do in the movies. Accuracy is definitely an issue here. If a suppressor was used and its properties mitigated any portion of the fire arms initial capabilities in accuracy and power, that means even blind firing the weapon would at most have minimized those hit and in turn the amount of death and injury. To say that more would be killed with one on, or insinuate such is completely moronic and if she wanted to try to “communicate” to others, she should at least know what she is talking about or be informed of these little [important] details. Again
Referencing the events to help mitigate further events is fine, but immediately politicizing something after the incident is pathetic and petty. That is all.

salinqmind** You cannot be serious… I am dumbfounded at your post. Keep imagining if it helps you through the day.
23 firearms at the hotel, 19 at his house.
I’d just like to mention that Hiram Maxim’s patent
US916885A - Silent firearm. - Google Patents
calls it a “silent firearm” and uses the term silencer.
The woman who was coordinating the police actions last night did a great job. She was so calm and collected.
Please keep this type of post out of this thread as the sticky at the top of the page states we do not allow derailments of breaking news threads for political posts. Feel free to discuss your feelings about the NRA in other threads. This thread is about the incident and factual information surrounding it.
Wow I’m pretty impressed. This is the first post that’s had to be modded. I half expected this thread to be a disaster when I first opened it.
Don’t bring politics into this thread, use the Pit or GD for that.
Why did the shooter bring so many guns? Isn’t one or two guns, but with many magazines for reloading, much more useful for his purpose than bringing a whole arsenal of guns? The extra guns could only cause him trouble and be of little use.
Reloading takes more time than picking up another loaded weapon especially if he had drum magazines like I suspect he did. Or maybe it’s just that he had all these guns and he wanted to use them all. When it’s possible to know the plans of these types of mass shooters they often have fantasies of taking out all the cops that come to get them. In their mind they are John Wick taking out bad guy after bad guy and grabbing new guns one right after another. When reality feels much different they end it.
In the audio recording of the LVMPD radio traffic that I posted earlier, it wasn’t a SWAT officer that got hit, but a security guard. It sounded like there were a handful of regular officers securing the hallway until SWAT could get in position.
Optimism. What if he understocked and ran out before the police reached him. Or caution–what if one or more guns jammed? What if it got too hot from continuous firing? Better to have them and not need them than to need them and not have them.
On a lighter note, a local newsreader had a small teleprompter flub, blending two sentences into one. He said:
(mention that he shot lots of people) then killed himself on stage singing during the attack (goes on to mention the name of the singer.)
Of course the reporter was supposed to say “then killed himself” followed by a pause before beginning the next sentence mentioning who was singing on stage while the attack happened. But he read it all as one fluid sentence, making it sound like the shooter killed himself on stage while singing.
Great point. It also makes you wonder in this day and age, how many got taken out because they had to stop and “check-in”, or video it on their phones so they could post it to Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Periscope (whatever the kids are using these days). Charles Whitman is probably spinning in his grave at missing out on all the stationary “selfies” being taken at the base of the clock tower in a 2017 scenario.
