Mandalay Bay (Las Vegas) shooting

Still alive and apparently out of the country. They don’t think she had anything to do with it. I had heard earlier that she has an Australian passport.

This is the SDMB; someone, somewhere, on this message board, absolutely has the answer to that question.

Believe me, we have someone who’s in law enforcement, or works intel, is some kind of analyst, who knows the answer.

Better question is, have they ever claimed responsibility for a massacre committed by a non-Muslim clearly not affiliated with ISIS?

Oh stop it.

My daughter wrote this before leaving for work this morning: How Dare You. Made me weep.

I agree this attack took very little planning. Having been to the Mandalay Bay, there is no “security” as far as what people have in their luggage. Nobody checks bags. No metal detectors. The rooms with a view of the strip have floor to ceiling windows.

Last time of a ‘Something Must Be Done’ mass shooting, of the gay club in Orlando, the killer — who had a laundry list of stereotypes he disliked — claimed to be acting for muslims everywhere, yet the CIA found no evidence ( friends claimed he was gay, yet the FBI found no evidence ).
As a muslim, his father denounced his dead son, saying it was not for man to destroy homosexuals, but for God. He then got photographed near to Hillary Clinton, at one of her rallies.

It sounded like full auto to me. Poor video/sound quality so could be wrong on that, but I did count about 10 seconds of sustained fire in multiple instances. That’s longer than a 75 round drum mag would take to dump so that’s bad. Could be a belt fed but I feel like that’s just a guess.

So shitty.

Not if you use your girlfriend / soon-to-be-ex-wife’s credit card & don’t plan to be alive when the bill comes in.

I saw that & was thinking is this the president or a preacher?
All the pics & video is of “Police” cars, but the spokesperson is the Sheriff. Where I live they are separate entities; are they one in the same in LV? If different, what are the differences? Here, Sheriff’s don’t do patrol but more administrative side of law enforcement, handling prisoners, courthouse security, fugitive warrants, etc.
Holy S#!t; just heard a talking head state that LVPD keyed on the smoke detectors in the hotel to narrow the room they were looking for.

Bump-fire stock with double drum mag.

What an utterly insignificant concern.

ISIS would claim responsibility if trump stubbed his toe.

Stranger than an Ariana Grande concert or a random movie theater in Colorado? Seems about par for the course. Bad / crazy people wanting to hurt lots of people seek out crowded places with lots of people packed into them.

Yeah, but now the question is ‘did ISIS do it?’ and not ‘who was responsible?’

FBI just issued a statement that, at this time, they have on evidence of an ISIS connection.

I wonder how many times they had to film that before they got a take where it didn’t jam

Eh? the Grande concert was a clear target for that suicide bomber. It was carefully chosen.

I have no idea about a movie theatre, there are so many f these shootings.

"Experts who closely follow the Islamic State say that in general when it comes to attacks in the West, an ISIS claim of responsibility usually means there was some sort of connection. But the attack might have been planned, funded and directed by ISIS — or it could just have been inspired by the group’s propaganda.

Has ISIS ever claimed responsibility for attacks that turned out to be totally unrelated to it?

“We have not been able to find a real lie from ISIS,” said Katz, who follows the group’s social media obsessively with a critical eye. “Despite the fact that they are a terrorist organization, they want to provide their followers and supporters with authentic information.”

Joscelyn said he can’t think of an example of an outright false claim by ISIS in the U.S. and western Europe. There are plenty of exaggerations — on death tolls, for instance — and the statements shouldn’t be assumed to be true. (For instance, the ISIS claim for the attack on a concert in Manchester didn’t describe a suicide bomber, and had slightly inflated numbers of the dead and wounded.)

But in the West, “when ISIS claims something … usually there’s something there,” Joscelyn said."

It was 100+ injured and 20+ dead. I just woke up and now it’s 515+ injured and 58+ dead.

This is horrible.

Well, the AP provided an answer to my question:
