Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

Jesus, I want to go out and pick up a bottle of champagne, but I have to work in the morning. Dammit my life gets complicated at times! Any suggestions?

That cough doesn’t sound at all good. You coming down with something??

[hint, hint]

I can’t help wondering whether the Orange Peril’s asinine tweet affected the timing of the indictment. That is, Bragg may have been planning to call for an indictment after the break but did it now, either to a) keep the tweet from festering for a month, or b) give His Nibs a great big middle finger. Works for me either way.

And his response calls to mind the “No decrease in the chocolate ration” → “Expect a decrease in the chocolate ration” → “Chocolate ration increased!” sequence in 1984. Anyone who can reconcile it with yesterday’s tweet is a doubleplusgood doublethinker.

Bryan Tyler Cohen says it will be 6 months to a year before a trial date (in the first minute of this video). “If you’re worried about things moving too quickly to follow… you’ve got time.”

My fear is they will attempt to put Trump on trial and something will happen and there will be mistrial.

Then they will have to decide whether to try him again and it would NOT surprise if the second attempt results in a mistrial as well,

What happens after THAT I am not sure but I fully expect this to be a total circus.

Get a split of champagne, perhaps?

I’ve thought the situation over, and I’ll toast it with the beer I have in the fridge, and pick up a bottle tomorrow after work. I think this is the most mature decision I have ever made, but I appreciate your suggestion!
ETA: And yours, Spoons!

Ha-ha! My husband is shopping for champagne as we speak!

2023 isn’t, in fact, an election year. I don’t think there’s any such thing as a “campaign year”, but perhaps in mistaken.

It was just mentioned on CNN that he’s already sending out fundraising alerts. He is nothing if not predictable.

And in Separation of Powers and Federalist news:

TL;DR: Kevin McCarthy loses what’s left of his shit.

Our system of justice is SACRED!!!

If it’s “third world prosecutorial misconduct”, it’s only because Trump turned this country into a third world hellhole.

I think that grand jury should take a break, and have some champagne.

So when is Pomerantz going to grovel for a spot back on the prosecution team?

Apparently the DA’s office wanted an arrest tomorrow, but the Secret Service needed more time to coordinate the move.

ETA: we’ve been wondering what the logistics of charging, arresting, etc. an ex-president look like. Well, here we go. From a purely academic standpoint, everything that comes from this point forward will be fascinating.

“Secret Service needed more time to prepare” i.e. champagne!

I knew I was chilling that bottle of champagne for something.

I’m saving mine for when Jack Smith drops the hammer.

I can totally understand that choice!!
