I’m thinking that the contempt would come from having lied earlier. I’m pretty sure that the judge had originally asked jurors as a group if they would be too biased to serve. Large numbers of people raised their hand and were dismissed.
They only got into the specific questions, I think, after weeding out the obvious “no’s”. If a juror had a chance to point at Trump and speak to him, it would be after they had assured the court that they could be fair and impartial. It was at that point that the lawyers were nitpicking their histories.
On msnbc, it is reported that trump has yet gone against the “gag” order, and posted something from Fox News regarding the jurors in the manhattan trial.
I’m not seeing it printed out at this time.
The judge may be white hot going into court tomorrow. From the discussion on the last word, Mr Weismann believes this post is a direct violation.
It appears pretty clearly to be a violation of the gag order, doesn’t it? DJT and his lawyers will likely say it doesn’t count since he’s just repeating Liar Liar Pants on Fire Jesse Watters but I doubt that will work.
My answer on the questionnaire would be something like, “I don’t know. I loathe Trump but I don’t know if I’m too biased to serve.” If they wanted to follow up, my elaboration would be along the lines of, “I think he’s a monstrous human being who should have his wealth stripped from him and then die in jail, but I also have enough faith in and loyalty to the institutions of the country that I wouldn’t vote to convict unless I sincerely believed the state’s case had been proven. It would break my heart to find him not guilty, but on the other hand, if the state proves their case and I get to vote guilty and throw this bloated parasite in the clink, I’ll be drinking champagne later. You decide if I’m too biased.”
I don’t know if the process respects nuance. I’d leave it up to them.
Well Trump, first and foremost, please tell me who “they” are. Spare us no detail, I want to know all about it.
Second, if it is so goddamn easy to lie your way onto the jury why are you bitching about it instead of stacking the jury yourself?! (see also rigging elections)
Apparently Trump doesn’t believe any judge has the balls to lock up a presidential candidate. I’m not going to argue that Merchan should lock Trump up right now, but his Honor should give Trump a stern warning and disabuse him of the notion that he cannot be locked up. And then Merchan needs to follow through when Trump inevitably violates the gag order again.
I agree, but Trump would use that as a campaign add to further his self interests.
Trump : “They locked my up for telling the truth! I’m trying to save YOU! And speaking of truth, make sure to make an account on Truth Social so you can here (<Trump spelling) the truth.”
The MAGA’s will of course go wild. An analogy - Do you turn down the stove when the pot starts to boil, or wait until it boils over?
