Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

Temporarily locking up Trump for violating his gag order does not increase his odds of becoming president, imo.

Back to six seated jurors:

A young oncology nurse told the court Thursday morning that after “sleeping on it,” she did not want to serve on Trump’s jury, Merchan said. The woman was brought into the courtroom and explained how friends and family had warned her that her personal identifying information had been made public.

#courage

And nothing will happen to Trump because nothing ever happens to Trump because the justice system is a joke.

thank you for the assist.

they lost 1 juror, and another is coming back for further questioning.

there is a lock up at the court house. i’m sure they could accomidate mr trump and the secret service there.

Jesus. These jurors are going to need to go into witness protection programs. They will be hounded for the rest of their lives. Or dead.

It can’t be too hard for a determined MAGAt to figure out who they are.

it is question 3 about employers that “out” the juror. the judge is clamping down on that information, and has warned the press about reporting employment.

96 today, so far about 56 have been excused. 30+ are left.

They’re giving out too much detailed information when describing the selected or prospective jurors. If they must describe them at all, gender, age, and race should be the extent. Adding other identifying information just helps the armchair detectives narrow down their identities.

That really, really narrows down this person’s identity.

Does this make it blindingly clear to the judge that Trump’s jury threatening remarks cannot stand? Does it make it clear that Trump is a mob boss who is trying (and succeeding) to intimidate jury members?

that was from cnn’s front page.

after today, with the judge’s admonishment, they just may go with gender.

No shit. You wouldn’t need to be Jim Rockford to figure out who that was. Sheessss…

I wonder what would happen if Trump’s Secret Service Protection Detail very publicly announced that they were going to take the entire Summer off.

I wonder how Trump and his family would feel – hated, reviled, a pox upon our country, a menace to the Rule of Law – if the people he counts on to keep him alive … just … didn’t.

That’s probably how these judges, jurors, prosecutors, witnesses, and courtroom staff feel every single day right now. That’s probably how every single NATO country feels with him holding a proverbial Kalashnikov rifle to their heads.

And … why? Because a recidivist criminal and malignant narcissist will not stop breaking the law and will not ever take responsibility for HIS OWN actions.

i would think this is an issue for quite a few people, from cnn:

A prospective juror who says she works for a law firm said she has previously discussed the legal merits of Donald Trump’s case with coworkers when she worked as a law clerk.

At one point, after a long pause and a deep sigh, she said she thinks she can be fair.

She reiterated her knowledge of this case several times: “It’s hard to unring a bell,” she said.

(Emphasis added.)

Doesn’t that infringe on first amendment rights? The press can publish any public aspects of a trial. If they can’t publish, it’s effectively not public. If the judge wants to keep information secret, then he needs to keep it in non-public channels.

It seems reasonable that a judge should simply be able to declare some things said in court as “not public”. If we grant that the judge does have the right to keep some information secret, it seems unnecessarily inconvenient to make the press physically troop in and out of the courtroom every time such information comes up. Moreover, since the press is in the courtroom with the jurors, your theory would permit them to print detailed physical descriptions of the jurors, which obviously wouldn’t be good.

I don’t understand why the judge is refusing to rule on any of the contempt of court stuff until Monday. Maybe just letting him dig a deeper hole?

He’s busy with the jury stuff.

Yeah and even if CNN respect that you can bet the OANN and naziincelsfortrump.ru won’t.

It seems to me as with a lot of stuff like this the rules were written in an age when if you wanted to look up a juror who was “a married lawyer living in the upper east side who subscribes to NYT”, you had to troll through a bunch of actual bits of paper to cross reference bar membership with the voter records or whatever then go knock on doors. Whereas now that’s a 30ms web query you can do on your phone.

trump is more animated today. that sketch must have gotten to him.

cnn is still giving a bit of detail:

  • The woman in seat four said she works in publishing and read several pages of Cohen’s book “Disloyal” for business reasons.
  • The juror in seat five said she is a retired university administrator who has also read “The Art of the Deal” decades ago. She’s a long-time subscriber to the New York Times, "mostly for the crossword puzzle."In a lighter moment, she couldn’t get the microphone to work, and when the court officer said “testing,” it didn’t work, prompting laughter in the courtroom

also:
Former President Donald Trump appears engrossed with potential jurors seated in the jury box as they give their answers to the questionnaire, according to reporters in the courtroom.

He has is leaning way back in his chair as he cranes his head to get a good view of them as they speak.

Quick legal question: suppose you have 11 Jurors in favor of conviction, and the one holdout admits inside the deliberations that it doesn’t matter whether or not Trump did it, America needs Trump to save our children from the trans paedophiles.

Can they call him out as biased at that point and replace him with an alternate, or is it too late?
