I think I heard 7 men and 5 women now seated. But CNN is not being more specific about details—I think that after the descriptions of the jurors last Tuesday, they (and other media) realized that such information could endanger the jurors.

Maybe she did explicitly apologize and CNN didn’t quote it. But the quoted bit isn’t an apology. “I should apologize,” not “I do apologize.” And it’s left unsaid what tone she is supposedly apologizing for. Maybe it’s the parts where she was polite.

I’d expect that a few more jury members will get axed as the two legal teams continue background checking them all.
Assuming the “2 removals from 7” ratio sticks, we’d expect another couple of losses. With six alternates, that shouldn’t be an issue.

I know it’s not done yet, but I am pretty surprised we got to 12 this quickly. I expected jury empanelment to last at least a full week and probably longer. That’s a good sign, IMO, that Merchan is running a really tight ship. Maybe the trial itself will not take the 6 weeks estimated.

They have used up thier strikes - things that don’t require the judge to decide. They can always ‘challenge’ anyone - and then its up to the judge.
