msnbc now: appeal denied.
A Columbia man, eh?
…
Can we just give it up to the judge? He’s a professional. His cases get resolved. They may plea; I’m sure the vast majority do. But if they don’t plea, and the government doesn’t dismiss, then they go to trial.
And it’s his job to see that they do, and it’s done fairly to all involved. So far, that appears to clearly be the case here. Judge Merchan runs a tight ship, but I also see no indications of any draconian measures.
And, by breaking precedent (the first criminal trial of a president!) he just smoothes the road for all of the other trials to come.
No, he spoke briefly. Nothing surprising: “Witch hunt,” “Democrat judges,” and something about Judge Engoron. He didn’t have a stack of papers in his hand, however.
Did the court know about the man on fire? Did Trump?
huh, did he do it in the pen outside the court room?
I cannot answer as to the court, but after Trump’s brief remarks, somebody (likely a reporter) shouted, “Sir, did you know about the man on fire?” Trump just kept on walking.
ETA to rocking_chair: Yes, it was in the pen outside the courtroom. But his remarks were brief; not nearly as long as yesterday’s remarks when he had the stack of papers.
Did he?
Donald Trump claimed on Friday that he has been stripped of his constitutional right to speak to the press … while ranting to a giant gaggle of reporters.
The former president took time before entering court in his criminal hush money trial to once again complain about a gag order barring him from attacking witnesses, prosecutors, court staff, and jurors involved in the case.
I guess that was before court. Not sure that is a distinction worth making.
Just bolding this for effect.
It’s idiotic, and perfectly in line with Trump’s child mentality.
Are right wing media idiots reporting on this? Are they stupid enough to report that Trump has spoken to them and said he is not being allowed to speak to them?
This guy…
I’m not sure this goes here but I had to add it somewhere:
Ben Meiselas, co-founder of MeidasTouch and owner of Los Angeles Magazine, reported today that “Donald Trump is actually farting in the courtroom and that it’s very stinky around him.”
“Trump’s lawyers are repulsed by the scent and the smell,” he said, noting that these observations are from credible sources in the courtroom.
I was in the bank earlier this week, and some old lady just ripped one. Didn’t bat an eye. I wondered if she even knew she did it.
@JohnT posted this in this thread 2 hours ago. I think we have enough information on this now.
My apologies. I missed that earlier post.
me too. Sorry
The Prosecution agreed to share the name of the first witness only and said that if Trumps makes any Tweets about it they would never get that courtesy again.
He probably won’t consider incarceration for these cases but that is the way these things work. It starts with a warning, then a fine, then pokey. My guess is he will give a fine on Wednesday but say if he ignores it again he’ll give a custodial sentence for contempt.
What Trump does then is anyone’s guess. He is clearly very scared of prison, but he’s also mentally deteriorating, so we’ll see
Sucks to be the guinea pig first witness I guess.
Trump passes the info off to one of his Trumpettes and lies about it afterward, claiming that the prosecution did it to frame him.
And critically the judge agreed with that sentiment
I hope they are preemptively giving the witness some protection.
I’d count fines from other judges. When it comes to gag orders he’s an habitual offender. You know those three strikes laws? It should apply here.
