Manhattan Prosecutors file criminal charges for Trump re Stormy Daniels case - ongoing discussion here (Guilty on all 34 counts, May 30, 2024)

I can’t agree with this.

He is campaigning every day after court. His only policy issue in this entire campaign is “Everyone is picking on me! They are so meeeeeannnn!”

This is the entirety of the Republican Platform.

I googled the phrase and got ‘It looks like there aren’t many great matches for your search.’ But there was also a link to something called The Ponzi Papers. I’m not giving them my email, so I googled "the ponzi papers’. I was able to find this from The Ponzi Papers site without giving them my email address:

These claims sound like fantastical conspiracy theory, but they are not. They are proof of conspiracy.

I’m not willing to delve into it, but it seems to be something about cryptocurrency and how the banks are taking over the world or something.

The screed offers an accompanying pamphlet, now in paperback:

Whoa.

[I won’t go any further on this tangent]

It seemed it might be related to the trial when it happened, but now it’s clear that it is not.

I concur. No more from me here on this subject.

Moderating:

There is now a separate thread started in FQ to discuss the Man On Fire situation. Let’s refrain from posting further about it in this thread, which is intended to discuss the actual proceedings in this matter. If the FQ thread is too narrow for what you wish to discuss, please start a new thread either here in P&E or elsewhere that you find suitable. Thanks.

Now that the cause is known (wasn’t what I was thinking it might be but doesn’t matter), will this likely cause any changes to court procedure? Either what was planned for the rest of the day or the how it proceeds starting next week?

I predict that Trump will spend the weekend speaking at length on various platforms about how he is not allowed to speak.

Since Trump is the de facto Speaker of the Hpuse, perhaps we can call this session The Incontinental Congress…?

Nevermind, can’t do it from the phone.

But there’s a difference between a few minutes in front of a Manhattan courthouse, and an hour in front of thousands in a swing state. Not the least of which is that the rally allows many ways of monetizing his presence.

court is back in session for the sandoval meeting.

prosecutors will not say who will be the first witness will be as trump has already posted about them.

CNN: Soon, NY appeals court holds hearing on Trump’s change of venue motion in the hush money trial.

How could you possibly grant a change of venue with an empaneled jury and jeopardy attached?

I don’t know, but I imagine that it’s just another attempt to delay. If the motion is granted, there will be a delay. If not, then there isn’t. But making such a motion fits with Trump’s usual “delay, delay, delay” strategy.

Sixth Amendment
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense.

to be confronted with the witnesses against him

Just a way of asking for a mistrial or a appeal.

And you have to know this is why trump is doing it.

Question- we have seen trump did not attend quite a few graduations, but was any other criminal defendant given a day off to attend one?

You may want to check your facts on this

Dammit ninja’d by seconds

(But yeah, let’s put that one to bed)

It would be unusual.

Judges are generally amenable to accommodating the scheduling needs of jurors, witnesses and attorneys. Rarely are they concerned about a defendant’s wishes regarding scheduling. That person’s wishes garner the least consideration in the courtroom.

court is done for the day. trump left without any remarks.
opening statements to start monday morning.

As the avenues for delay approach exhaustion, let’s hope the defense counsel avoid the Ronald Hughes Blues.
