Manhattan: wake up call or whiny bitch?

Fuck apologizing.

I got a warning and he gets a pass.

BULLSHIT.

Way to bend over backwards to placate the conservative whiners who feel that their lack of representation makes the SDMB a Liberal hate group.

In my opinion, I made a statement of fact. I am bright enough not to post that statement of fact in GD, as some could interpret it as a personal attack.

Get off the cross, you fucking baby. The post for which you were warned was a clear-cut case of calling another poster a troll:

Shodan: “Trolls do X”
Mockingbird: “Yes, you do.”

How can that be interpreted as anything other than “you, Shodan, are a troll”?

Shodan on the other hand used part of a well-known acronym but specifically changed the word troll to the word twit. Using part of acronym does not automatically confer the meaning of the omitted part. WTFudge would not constitute swearing, IANALampshade doesn’t mean that one is claiming to not be a lawyer. Changing words in sentences and phrases can make them mean different things! It’s amazing!

In My Hostile Opinion

:shrugs: Fair enough.

Thanks for the quick response, Giraffe.

Shodan

Ah, Giraffe is right. It was a very clever bit.
Not that I agree with Shodan’s characterization, obviously. But this was a very clever way of calling someone a twit, and as this is the Pit (hmm, that rhymes), it’s not even much of a thing to call someone.

It was my pleasure, sir! Remember that, as a conservative, you’re entitled to Platinum Level Moderator Service. If any of these undesirables give you any more trouble, just call me on my cell phone and I’ll take care of it immediately.

Huh, I missed that on my first reading, too. Guess I’m just not used to seeing wit in your posts.

I believe the quality is called “forbearance”. Or so I’ve heard.

I thought that’s what you bought little six-armed sweaters for.

Daniel

So what does “Do not feed the twit?” mean, if not “Ignore this person because they are looking for attention?” What are you feeding the twit? What does the twit want? How is this really any different from DNFTT?

Perhaps if I refer to “bridges and sheep” that will be okay, because I am only talking about the “Three Sheep Gruff.”

Or maybe I can decry Shodan’s ogre-ing?

Wow, what a fun game we can play, now that a moderator has ruled that with tweaks, veiled variations on the theme of ***** are acceptable!

Oh for gods sake. Shodan didn’t mean troll. You can’t read his mind to say otherwise. The mod has spoken. Let’s move on.

Do not feed the Cave Twit!

If nothing else, I think I’ve been consistently on the side of the Mods* in the ongoing Offenderati Offensive. However, I found Shodan’s post much too ironic to give it a free pass under current circumstances. Here we have a number of threads largely devoid of specific examples of precisely what it is they are railing against – some sort of unspecified oppresive lib’ral cloud hanging over the SDMB. And yet here comes Shodan, a well steemed (by them anyway) member of the Oppressed Minority crossing a red light in full view of The Cops. Surely I couldn’t pass that up.

But what do you know, we’ve been told we’re wrong. Then again, they’ve been way too Right all along

Honestly, the only thing I could make of Shodan’s original DNFTTwit quip, was Do Not Feed The Trollwit. Guess there’s some comfort in knowing I’m not the only one.

Methinks there might be more than humor involved in the above quip – for instance, a Freudian slip.

Of course, might be the tinfoil speaking.

Oops! Forgot the asterisk.

*In the only two forums I frequent, GD and The Pit, anyway.

Of course not. This is the pit. You should no more restrict comments on Liberal here than you should restrict Liberal from posting in a manner that brings out such posts from others. If he wants to play christ on a cross, that is his choice, and if others wish to call him on it, that is their choice.

Of course, in the context of my complete post, one could consider that I was seeking opinions about how that comment would be perceived in GD, IMHO, Cafe Society, the Comments Fora, etc.

I am not really eager to take on one more (vague and nebulous) rule to enforce, only to have to watch every third Modding action show up in the Pit with whiny “I didn’t like your decision” threads for the next few years. If some of you want to actually change the rules, nitpicking at your own examples is hardly the way to curry my support in any ensuing Staff discussion on the topic.

.

As I have just noted, I am not eager to be encumbered by the need to enforce one more not-quite-specific rule. I am not about to open a discussion on the topic. When (early in the thread) various posters began whining that the staff was leaning over to let the “left” bully the “right,” several of us Mods noted that no one was really violating the current rules (or that few people were reporting the violations that some people perceived). As a part of this thread, I have asked what changes to the current rules would reduce this perceived problem. The stuff that has thus far been proposed has all been the sort of actions that will paint bullseyes on the staff, regardless of what judgements we render. I see no reason to open a thread to invite more work for us while encouraging more insults to be hurled at us. If any of those who think that we need new or better rules are interested, I would suggest that they open such a thread.

Totally arbitrary bannings.
Keep everone on their toes.

Giraffe Giraffe! He hit me back first!

Ban him! Ban him!

Shodan
