Why did everyone RUSH to back up Manhattan?

Nobody cops that much criticism for no reason. I’d like to point out a few things about “manny” too.
I think manhattan suffers from a shocking lack of consistency.

Is there a definitive answer to this question? Hell no. All answers were merely opinions, but manhattan let it ride safely in GQ.

I posted it here because this is where everyone came to back up manny. I know it doesn’t BELONG here, but this is where everyone (surprise!) from GQ is.

But read my OP, you’ll find there are many threads in GQ that belong in IMHO.

This is a very simple situation.

  1. Manhatten is the moderator for this board
  2. Nobody’s perfect.
  3. Most of the people here (myself included) think that all things considered, he does a fine job.
  4. Yes, you are entitled to your opinion.
  5. No, this is not the appropriate place to put it.
  6. Manny would probably appreciate constructive criticism (perhaps in a private email or MPSIMS) but this sounds like a personal vendetta. The points expressed in your post are just too anal to have truly pissed you off.
  7. If you don’t like it, go away. This is not a democracy.

To address your point (you should fix your links if you’re going to be naughty enough to cross-post anyway) moderation requires judgement.

It’s not like Jeopardy, where it is easy for any throwback to tell whether the response is phrased correctly. Perhaps Manny will explain politely why he did what he did. Probably he will say some of them are arguable. This is why people backed him: generally he gets it right. If it is arguable and someone asks, he will say so.

You have now asked twice, and you may find that some people get a bit snooty with you.

The bottom line is that people stay here because the board works and people support the mods because they contribute to that a great deal behind the scenes and we are grateful.

You’ve already been spanked in MPSIMS by the participants there and now you present your chapped and blistered rear end to GQ for another round of “Sir. May I have another please!”.

I’ve posted to a number of message boards over the past 15 years or so and this is among the better moderated of any I have ever seen. Manhattan does an excellent job in a difficult task. If something is on a dividing line of relevance to a particular forum and he makes a decision you disagree with…fine, but to crash wheezing and sweating into the GQ cocktail party, and after urinating in the merrily crackling fire place, storm to the head of the table and j’accuse Manny of being well…inconsistent.

This really does belong in the pit so I could add the proper embellishments, but to answer your last post, did you read the questions asked?

“How the hell do you eat a mango?” can be perceived as asking for a specific answer to a specific question. Ever peel a mango? They are wierd fruit.

“What’s the best way to prepare nachos?” obviously has a subjective (i.e. opinion, as in IMHO) factor to it.

Yes, manhattan posted an opinion in the mango thread, as did a lot of people, as to the yummyness of the mango, but those comments were actually peripheral. Some posters actually answered the question.

Because people will always put their opinions to GQ rather than the proper place.

Working out what a debate is, is within the grasp of most folk.

If you want to fry someone it isn’t hard to work out where to do that

No, GQ is the place that everyone puts their posts if they are not sure.
