Hey, manny? I love you.
Wait, I’ve just lost count…which mod is in the lead for the most complaints now? Is it UncleBeer, manhattan, slythe-now-Czarcasm, or the new communist dictator Clog head?
I can open up another Enterprise vs. Star Destroyer thread to bring the Silly Question ration down a bit… would that help?
As I said, 90% of the general questions here are rather stupid.
well, you go, girl.
Granted, it’s a stupid question. but again, 90% of the questions in GQ are pretty stupid. Had the idiot asked “what non-simpsons simpons character has recieved the most screen time?”, which is really what he was asking, it might have made an interesting discussion. no more interesting than any of the other idiotic ridiculous questions that get asked here.
I do not intend to open a pit thread for every dumb thing you do, hat. and i already have a high-speed connection. so randomly throw out idiotic questions at will, while leaving equally idiotic questions in GQ. I kiss you. <sm00ch>
Monster104 asked:
Ha! They aren’t even close to me. Nice try, but I’m still kicking ass in the Pit Thread department. (Thanks to Duck Duck Goose for starting the most recent one last week.)
If you can imagine Cecil fielding the question, then it’s probably suitable for GQ. If I may presume to generalize, I think that the column tends to hover over the periphery of human knowledge, addressing the sorts of questions which tug at the strings of our curiosity, but the answers to which are not easily found in standard sources. I can think of some examples over the years: whether hippos have spiral penises (penes?), exactly what we mean by the term Swiss bank account, various UL’s, and so on. But there is a difference between peripheral and pointless, and the Simpsons question is quite clearly the latter. You will never see this, or a similar question fielded in the column. I mean, what’s next? South Park and the Rug Rats?
I suspect that the OP wasn’t familiar with the column, and therefore didn’t appreciate the inappropriateness of his question. There are so many members that we’re bound to have some now who have never seen a copy of the Reader, or any of the SD books. Very often people will join a forum because they’ve been lurking for awhile and see something they’ve just got to weigh in on. In such cases they are likely to skip the fine print regarding rules and regulations, and just click on the I Accept button.
I admit that’s pretty much what I did, though I haven’t been flamed or reprimanded so far. This is probably because I’ve been reading the SD for decades and therefore have a sense of the mores, i.e., what is and isn’t appropriate.
Increasingly, newcomers may not be so familiar, and the sign-up screens may need to emphasize the terms of use better.
Dude! Your post was made during the Superbowl! Of course I wasn’t thinking about girls.

Now I’m thinking about girls.
Somebody may have mentioned this, but im running out the door and ddint have time to read the entire thread. http://www.snpp.com did a poll in one of their sections on favorite simpsons character, so you could check that. However, I think everyone voted only once, for their favorite, instead of listing a top 10, so it might not be quite what the thread that this thread refers to is looking for (wow, mouthfull).
Are a lot of stupid questions asked in GQ? Yes.
Is that a justification to open another stupid one? No.
