Manx Kitty update

Way back in August/September I posted in GQ about my Manx kitten, Tavy, and several posters suggested I update at some point. As a guest I can’t search for the original thread but perhaps some kind member will provide a link.

Tavy’s doing great now he’s a real laugh

Here he is meeting the kitty in the mirror for the first time:

One of his first forays into the garden

Looking all grown up

Just a real sweet kitty

In the original thread I was a bit worried that his persistant diarrhea was something to do with his manxiness being as how it* is *a form of spina bifida. I still think it might be but it’s settled down a lot so long as he sticks to a diet of (adult) cat biscuits and boiled fish. But not chicken, he just can’t tolerate chicken poor thing. However I realised something even more worrying – he has a lot of trouble jumping up. For a long time he didn’t ever jump but just recently he’s worked out a way of jump scrambling that works.

His best trick is carrying his favourite feather onna stick around. He’s been doing this since the stick was twice as long as he was, bumpety bump up and down the stairs, round the house and out into the garden. He’s made it all bendy getting it around corners. He usually takes it up to bed at night then brings it down again in the evening when he’s decided it’s time to play. All in all he’s a cuddly purry playful little thing who makes me glad every day that I brought him home from the cat shelter.

Original kitty thread. He’s adorable! Yay you for giving him a good home.

What a cutie pie, he looks like the Manx tuxedo kitten I had thirty years ago, name of Dybbuk. She was a sweet kittie and I still miss her… Too bad your kitty gots the squitters, hope he gets over it!

Thanks Ferret Herder. Looks like I should have updated more on the tail thing. It’s very clear now that he has a small vestigial tail, with no bones, which just sits neatly and doesn’t bother him at all, although he doesn’t like to have it messed about with so I don’t

SmartAleq the vets tested him for bacteria and came up blank, gave him antibiotics anyway and some stuff to make him less runny which helped a bit but what really helped was an anti inflammatory injection. Since he had that, two months ago he does admirably formed poos just so long as I don’t give him the aforementioned chicken or tinned catfood.

Two of our three are tuxedos.

Yours is adorable.

He* is* adorable isn’t he. I looked out a couple more pictures.

With his beloved catnip rat, showing off his vestigial tail.

Camberwell, my senior cat

Cammy surveying her garden domain from the top of the dustbin. Despite the rather schoolmarmish expression she’s a soppy old thing. I’m not sure if she likes Tavy but she’s certainly seemed a lot less bored since he’s been around.

Camberwell’s brother, the late, much missed Vespa The little scratch next to his nose is from playing with one of next door’s kittens. I do wish he could have been around to play with Tavy.
