I noticed over the past few days that many news sites have made some sort of change to their pages so that you can no longer highlight and copy text. This makes quoting from articles more difficult. I would assume it is an effort from news organizations to keep people from violating copyright, etc.
Anyone else notice this, or am I doing it wrong?
Can you provide any examples? I just copied some text from Slate, HuffPo, and Politico without any problems.

And I can cut and paste from it no problem. The issue may be on your end.
Yeah well, Snopes used to do that, providing the article as an image almost or something. It was defeatable, all these things are defeatable.
Ask me not to copy an image and I likely won’t: try and stop me and there are a dozen ways to outfox you.
Usually, for print turning off javascript on the browser does the trick.
Note Well: If desperate, Page Info is your friend allied to Page Source.

Another one who can copy and paste that, no problemo. And I’m on a phone.
Sometimes, though, when you copy all or part of an article, the site will append a line or two about where the article came from and include a URL.
Not news, but you can no longer right click on a Gocomics strip and save it to your hard drive. Seems pretty pointless when all I need to do is hit my print screen button, paste it into a pic editor (such as Paint) and cut out the strip, paste, and save. Inconveniences me to no real point.
You can if you have NoScript set to full forbid. 
I can, but only from one of my “favorites” pages - not from a strip’s specific page.
Then they are using dumb design. Without JavaScript, the next best thing is to make it a background image, or, really, several. And, if that’s not good enough, make the scripts actually load the image, so it just doesn’t work without JavaScript.
Time to upgrade from Windows95!
I have encountered this many times and I notice because when I read longer articles I highlight as I read. Some pages when you try to highlight it you’ll get a message about copyrights. You can’t even get to the point where you would copy. As soon as you lift your finger up from highlighting you get that angry tone and message. No examples. I read for hours every day. It only happens occasionally.
Sometimes I light to highlight, right-click and google terms, and I’ve run into this issue, too.
My local village home page does this on their web site - sorta. They’ve trapped the “right click” so an attempt to right click / copy fails with a warning message. Doesn’t stop you using the cursor keys and ctrl+c though…!
Challenge to all of you who seem to know what I don’t. Go to WCT Men's Schedule - TSN.ca, and try to capture the 2016-17 WCT Men’s Schedule. Then twll me what to do to capture it. Obviously I am no longer interested in that but in a couple months there will be a 2017-18 schedule.
I was able to copy the page as HTML. You could use an HTML editor to extract what you want. Will that work? Unless you are a wiz with HTML, a couple of screenshots might be easier. Reduce the page size so you get more in one shot.
