I never heard that Ireland was supposed to look like an animal, but after staring at the map a few seconds, I realized it looks like a koala hanging on to an invisible tree trunk off the the west. See Colophon’s link above if you’re still not seeing it.

My first thought was seahorse, although the head is all wrong.
However, after seeing “puffin” mentioned and going back to the link for another look, that’s the answer I’m going with.

Me too!!! So glad someone saw a funky-trunked elephant, because I knew that wasn’t gonna be the “usual” answer or the OP’s and felt kinda dumb. Woot!
