Who knew MapQuest could be so much fun?? I didn’t, but it is.
Here’s the game.
Begin with a map of the United States. Zoom out as far as you can. Click on anywhere within the continental U.S. to re-center the map, and zoom in as far as you can. Add up the route, interstate and/or street numbers for a score. Zoom back out, re-center on a new location and zoom in again. Repeat.
We’ll set the game at 10 rounds. On my first attempt I scored a mere 594 points. Don’t laugh. Can you beat it?
One bonus point will be awarded when the “zoom-in” results in a completely blank map, meaning no streets, rivers, words, numbers etc.
Wow…I go nine rounds, amassing a total of three points (found three blank spots…isn’t there anything in Florida??). But most spots had no number streets.
Then, in round 10, I find the intersection of routes 776, 372, 774 and 75.
That give 1997 points, plus my three blanks, for a nice, even total of 2000 points.

we have all sorts of 4 digit roads in Texas … I was aiming for the intersection of a few of them and was only able to hit 1100 something, 100 something and loop 1604 for a score in the 2800-2900 range over 10 shots.
I did some “cheating” and found a spot worth 6199 – the junction of 201, 2766, and 3232 just west of Austin, TX
Another totally unspectacular round coming in at 505.
You know, I assumed the highest score would be the winner, but I kind of like the idea of MapQuest Golf too. By the end of this we’ll crown the highest score, and lowest non-zero score. Sorry Danalan.
