Seriously though, is this guy the next great one? Can he join the pantheon of legends were guys such as McEnroe, Connors, Borg, Sampras, Lendl and Laver proudly stand?
I mean, the dude has the size, the power, the speed, the serve, the return, creativity, resourcefulness, confidence and new found maturity. The only thing I found missing from his game was good volleying at the net.
And of course his win at the Open as a 20-year-old mirrors Sampras’s 10 years ago when he was 19. So, will he dominate this decade like Sampras ruled the 90s?
Not to mention my excitement at the possibility of exhibiting my retention of useless knowledge. “David! It’s pronounced ‘dah-veed’! Not to be confused with the song by Our Lady Peace, which you wouldn’t unless you have a cold! Pay attention to meeeeeee!!!”
But alas, it’s about tennis. Who gives a shit about tennis?
O.K. By now it is evidently clear that I made a PR mistake when naming this thread. I mean, you don’t go fishing for sharks and bring pizza as bate!
As of now I officially cede the rights to talk about Marat, Charlotte, shower assassinations scenes, Robespierre, beheadings, and whatever late 19th century macabre scenarios that you might propose.
Anyhow, I am starting a new thread (more appropriately entitled “Marat Safin, the next Sampras?”) regarding the intended subject. Of course, all of you Marat groupies are welcomed!
