In this competition, I don’t give a crap about the “best” or “greatest.” I want to know the MOST LOATHED popular musical artist of the 1990s.
That means in each matchup, you are going to vote for the musical act you HATE THE MOST!
Let me repeat that: Don’t vote for your favorite; YOU WILL CAST YOUR VOTE FOR THE ARTIST YOU HATE MORE. We will be voting for artists with our vitriol, and eventually will be left with the one musical act that cumulatively received the most amount of our pure, unadulterated hatred.
The original pool of 64 candidates comes from the top-selling artists and/or artists that had highly-reviewed albums and/or released multiple songs that somehow permeated the culture. Voting for this round will continue until 5:30pm on Thursday March 26.
FYI, for the hell of it, I tallied the total votes that the remaining sixteen artists received during the first two rounds and ranked them 1 through 16. (The higher they are on the list, the more votes they’ve received):
Janet Jackson
Mariah Carey
Puff Daddy
LL Cool J
Coolio
Oasis
98 Degrees
Meatloaf
Alice In Chains
NSync
Metallica
Michael Jackson
Sublime
Will Smith
Jay-Z
Hanson
Interesting that Janet Jackson has received the most hate so far.
So without further ado, vote for the artist you HATE MORE:
REGION 1
Puff Daddy vs. Jay-Z
Coolio vs. Will Smith
REGION 2
Oasis vs. Sublime
Meatloaf vs. Alice in Chains
REGION 3
Janet Jackson vs. Michael Jackson
LL Cool J vs. Metallica
REGION 4
Mariah Carey vs. Hanson
98 Degrees vs. NSync
I’ve got to admit I am very confused by the Sublime hate. Is it just because they weren’t around to keep making awesome music after they got famous? I mean really they’ve easily got 3 of the top 10 90s songs and didn’t last long enough in the spot light to do any terrible damage.
Well, the complaint I hear leveled at them most of the time is that they’re white-boy reggae. I don’t personally see that complaint as valid, because Sublime didn’t seem to be trying to appropriate the culture, really. But, folks disagree on these things.
I don’t have any particular dislike for them, but I consider them an uneven band. Some very good songs, some quite bad ones.
