Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 68 Amurrkin out with rain/tstorms/apocalypse due to start any minute now. It’s downhill from there as temps will drop durin’ the day after the storms move through and the temp will be near or at freezin’ tomorrow mornin’. I know a lot of Mumpers in the USofA at least are due for some volatile weather, so be safe. March weather is unstable at best, but seems to me Mother Nature is really losin’ her marbles this year. So, what’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?
From the last MMP…
J_Bats glad Bob and you made the first leg of your cross country trip safe and sound. May the weather cooperate as y’all continue to move diagonally across the continent.
MetalMouse everyone brings his own steak or whatever to throw on the grill and beverage of choice. Sallit, N.O.T., bizkits (frozen) and snausages (the appetizer) are bought (usually by OYKW and me) and everyone kicks in some $$$ for that, usually three or four bucks. We go over early to setup cause that’s just what we do.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. I hear booms in the distance and rain fallin’ so some back porch storm watchin’ will also occur.
Good morning, Mumpers! I’ve missed you all. Things are a little better here. I believe last time I was here was when they’d just recently taken my mom to the hospital. She was in there for almost a month and it was over an hour to get there. Now, fortunately, she’s at a local nursing home that is 9 minutes from my house. They’re helping her work on rebuilding her strength to get around on her own. It’s so very nice having her much closer. Also, I don’t remember if I’d mentioned our idea of selling the house or not, but we’ve decided that this house is just ‘us’ and we don’t want to leave. As a result, we’ve started with small changes to make it more wheelchair/walker friendly for when she comes home.
In other news, work and life continue on. I hope you all are well!
Good morning, MuMPers! Here in Elkhart, the temp is 31 degrees F. Prognosticators are saying we’ll have a high of 33 ferrets, with snow and wind. Dagnabbit, just a couple days ago I took the snow-and-ice spiky thing off the end of my cane. I guess I’m stuck.
We’re starting out at 60 Ferrets and heading to 70 Ferrets before our temps plummet. Rain on and off today with high wind and possible tornados being threatened. So for all that we’re hundreds of miles apart, we’re facing a similar day. So we shall be together in spirit, no?
With luck, I can get my errands out of the way before precip moves in. It did rain some overnight, tho it’s just dreary at the moment. If I can get FCD to go to Leonardtown for my meds, I can head the other way to Charlotte Hall for Food Lion and Aldi.
I think I mentioned that I contacted my credit union (I was surprised that the chat line was open on Sunday evening) and we should get our new credit cards before the week is out. It costs $25 for expedited replacement - irritating but still worth it. Damned fraudsters. No clue how we lost our number this time - the only “traveling” we’ve done lately is across the Bay Bridge, and even that was still in MD in places we’ve been before. I suspect it may have been some on-line purchase. I need to be sure neither FCD nor I allow our account info to be stored on any website. That may or may not be the source.
Amazingly, I’m not too sore after my fall - maybe the OTC pain meds I took last night helped. I do need to get the stoopit vine out of the yard and into the trash. And speaking of pain and stuff, I messaged with BBBoo last night, tho I see she posted in the last MMP. So I don’t have to tell you she’s alive and more or less functional, except for having to type with one hand/finger. I think it’s long past time for us to demand a stop to all Mumpers getting owies of all types. We deserve better!!!
OK, to echo swampy, Mother Nature is being psycho, so if she’s wreaking havoc in your neighborhood, stay safe!! Here’s hoping none of us lose power.
Cold weather has arrived following our blizzard. It’s 8F this morning, but we’ll be clawing our way up into near 50 by week’s end. And so another (not so) exciting week begins at the Last Supper Home for Doddering Old Fools. Now, where’s my oatmeal?
Morning all. Woke up to 35F this morning and the highest it’s going to get is 42F. Tomorrow’s high is expected to be 45F, but then it warms up and it’ll be near 80F by Sunday. Awaiting the plumbers to arrive and start work re-plumbing the house, so probably won’t be going much of anywhere today. Will probably work on some soccer stuff I have been putting off and get that done, otherwise sloth and internettin’ will be the balance of the day.
Swampy, thanks for scratching that curiosity itch. Kinda figured it was something like that.
Sticky Buns, welcome back! Glad things are settling down and Mom will be close to the house you are going to stay with.
FCM, glad you are doing well. And reminding me to do my periodic credit card check on-line when I finish this.
And onward into the week. All y’all take care with the Mad March weather all about.
managed to get through penndot for photo id on saturday. as always, bad picture. time wise not bad, 45 minutes. i was able to get through shoprite before the shuttle arrived. got a pie for pi day.
it was very blustery, i got hit by flotsam and jetsam while waiting for the shuttle. the building caused the winds to swirl. one pop can kept circling until a car finally ran it over.
today is “rainy days and mondays” it is cold in the office. a request was put in for heat.
65 yesterday, with our first tornado warning of the season. Now it’s 22, when light snow. Wednesday’s high is near 70 and we’ll be in the 80s by the weekend.
Spring break is over, so back to work. Right now I’m covered in cats, which makes it hard to motivate myself to get ready, but I’ll have to buck up soon.
Good morning all. It was 62F when I got up and it has dropped to 57F. Afternoon “high” should be in the mid 20’s with snow. It’s raining off and on now.
Yesterday it was so nice that I put my lemon tree out before going to the capital and it reached 82F before I got home. It was windy in the afternoon, though. I looked very dramatic with my bold red skirt and cape billowing out behind me.
Hubs appears to have misplaced our marriage certificate and one of my certified birth certificates. He insists on keeping all of that sort of thing in the fire proof safe but somehow it didn’t get replaced. He also misplaced our house title!!! but that has been found.
Last time he handled them was before his stent and he is thinking much more clearly now that his heart is working properly. I’m still going to have to start keeping better track of what he’s doing with stuff now. At least I know nothing has been thrown away. His room is always a black hole, things enter and never leave. I doubt his trash can has been emptied once since we moved in. Sigh.
So…without our marriage certificate, I will have to cancel my passport application until we can get a replacement. Which sucks.
I did just get a letter from the elections department telling me that because I’m not a registered republician, I will not be allowed to vote in the republician primary. I took that as conformation that I haven’t been purged from the voter rolls, but I’ve added checking up on that to my monthly list of things that gotta be done.
I’m sorry. But at least it sounds like you kinda enjoy your job, so you have that going for you.
According to the locals, the weather is not normal for these parts either. Its better than AZ, they are bracing for some extreme heat which will probably take out all of the fruit crops for the year.
You have my sincere sympathy. The only good part about this is that when they are done, it will finally be over. How are they dealing with the sewage, doesn’t all of that plumbing run through the foundation as well?
As to sneaking into places I shouldn’t…a confident attitude and clipboard works amazingly well for many occasions. It didn’t work this time, the showing was invitation only so I had to fess up to that part, but the clipboard and confident attitude never went away.
Oh good idea. I was just wondering what I wanted to have for breakfast. Oatmeal with chopped dates and slivered almonds sounds pretty good.
I saw your pics yesterday and agree with the others. Wow!
Stay warm!
You two need to stop falling, you aren’t 50 anymore! I’m glad you aren’t too sore, it didn’t sound like a lot of fun.
Oh, that’s got to be so much better for everyone. I do hope she is home soon, thanks for checking in!
It’s 45F and wet outside. Rain showers will occur in the morning, followed by afternoon cloudiness, with a high of 59F. Rather dull weather, compared to most of you, but it seems our crazy weather moved east. Even with the blizzard conditions the mountains encountered over the last few days, we are still in a snow drought, and there are big concerns about wildfire season.
FCM, I’m glad you’re not sore, but that’s a few times now in the space of a month. Please take care.
Sticky, so good to see you again. It’s good your mother is on the mend and now closer to you.
J-Bats, it’s good that you and Bob made the first leg of your trip safely. May it continue.
I’m glad to read BBBoo is on the road to recovery. I don’t recall seeing Misnomer posting here for quite some time. I hope she is well. I know some of us dip in and out here, but she was a regular poster.
I think I mentioned in the last MMP my son was going to make an offer on a home, but he had some concerns about it. He received the paperwork, and still hadn’t signed it. I didn’t think it was the house for him, but he’s a grown man, and I don’t have to live there.
Well, I was perusing the real estate listings later yesterday morning and ran across a house he had loved, but it disappeared from the market within a couple of hours. It was back on the market, and I hurriedly sent the link and told him GO GO GO. He saw it yesterday and made an offer last night. I really hope he gets it. Another couple was viewing the place when he arrived yesterday, too. He was so happy he hadn’t signed the other offer AND that I had seen this place. This was the house that had spurred him to get his pre-approval paperwork in, so I really hope he gets it.
There isn’t much on the agenda for today. Really, I don’t think there’s anything on the agenda. I guess I’ll be a real RDOS. You all take care of yourselves.
And it’s snowing outside…in March..in Alabama… And I don’t mean little wisps of snow, this is full-fledged, white-sky, sticking to the ground snow. Glad I’m inside awaiting the plumbers, I called about 9:15am to ensure I’m on the schedule and they are doing some emergency work but will let me know when they are available. So no Moanday shop-n-sammich today, had a Big Bowl O’Cornflakes and a banana instead.
I did find an alarm clock that penetrates my hard-of-hearing ears. It’s this one from Wal-Mart, and it works just like the old ones you see on the oldies movies. Loud, it is–just the way I want it. Robot or human?
JtC, I know where my birth certificate is, not sure about the house title, may have to check more on that. As for the sewage question, I’ve never had blockage or any sort of a leak with it, so apparently it got build right.
Taters, fingers crossed on Son’s house-hunting. I remember in 1997 looking for a house, must have gone through 20+, but when I came to this one, when me and my agent got back in the car I told her to put a bid down on it right now. Never regretted it (well, aside for the plumbing the last few years…).
And just peeked out the window, it’s not falling as hard but the snow is still coming down. Ah, springtime!!
You’ve been missed too! Glad your mom is closer to home. Tweaking a home to accommodate mobility devices and all of the other stuff you need to get around can be a pain, but if your mom can come back to the home that she left, it should be worth it.
We were at 86F yesterday and still ~75F when I went to bed with the AC on. This morning, Nelson and I were both jacketed when I took him out and the heat was on as it was 41F and windy AF. Ma Nature needs to settle down. It sounds like you may be located in the same part of the country as I am (Houston).
I woke up at the usual time and was still sleepy, so’s I went back to sleep and slept for another hour. I don’t often do that, but it felt good. Once KP is done, there isn’t a lot on my plate, so I’ll mess around in the studio for a bit.
philly is now in a tornado watch. a line of storms is going through md, va, nc and ga, spawning tornados. the storms are moving fast and heading east.
we have light misty rain in philly right now. i do get cranky when south of us gets snow and we are in the mid 60’s getting rain.
philly proper as far as i know has had an ef2 and an ef0 go through. the ef0 was near rittenhouse square, and the ef2 was on south street and then went over the river to new jersey. there were a handful in northeast phila. an ef2 went up roosevelt blvd once. really rare but it happens.
The sheeting rain changed over to snow sometime in the middle of the night. Very wet, heavy snow. I canceled my physical therapy appointment but drove a mile to Walmart for my grocery pick up. There is nothing in my order that was critical, but you know how it is with us RDOS. The streets have been plowed once or twice and if I don’t have to go out again, that’s fine with me. Making my gourmet meatloaf for dinner. It’s gourmet because it has fancy cheese and sautéed mushrooms and barbecue sauce and is topped with strips of bacon. Add a baked potato with butter and sour cream and a side of green beans and my tummy is happy.
Hi all. I wanted to let you you know that our sweet little Zoe has gone to join her sister Chloe, just short of one year later.
Unfortunately, I was 2500 miles away when the decision had to be made, and Mrs W had to deal with it alone. I didn’t get home until a week later, but she said she was actually grateful to have the time to herself. I can understand that. It didn’t really hit me until I got back to the empty house; it’s amazing how one tiny little kitty can fill up the place, and how big a hole they leave behind.
We got her ashes back Saturday, and had a nice little backyard funeral yesterday. Mrs W says we may be done with cats. It just keeps getting harder to lose them. I have a feeling she’ll want to have fur babies in the house again, but it might be a while.
In happier news, Cupcakes (aka Baker) is alive and well and back in the Death Pool thread. She had some computer issues and couldn’t get online for a couple weeks. Gave us a good scare though.
Our first 100-ferret day of the year is forecast for this Friday. The earliest 100 in recorded history was on May 1, 1942. This would shatter that record by over a month. Crazy.
While I was in New Jersey recently, we enjoyed a Wednesday afternoon that was 80 and sunny. 24 hours later it was below freezing and snowing heavily. I guess the whole country is going nuts weather-wise.
So sorry about Zoe. I know it’s hard losing them but just remember that you got love and gave love and especially if the kitties were rescues, all that you did for them and they did for you. Then go take a look at the kitties available for adoption.
Good morning, Mumpers! I’d forgotten to turn my walking alarm back on, so I climbed back in bed after the bladder alarm went off at quarter 'til five this morning. So no walking this morning, but we did get an extra hour of sleep. We had a very nice time this weekend up in the mountains. Mrs Magill’ birthday dinner was at a small local restaurant. We all had some of the best trout I can remember. I had made her cupcakes with a ganache frosting for her birthday cake Thursday night. The trip back was mostly uneventful. We did gain a passenger on the way home - Spike came home for spring break.
Last night, we had a tornado warning. The RADAR showed a clear circulation headed right for us, so we hustled everyone down to the shelter. Chloé had her spare bed, the rabbit was in his small carry case, and we were in lawn chairs until the system broke up just before it was due to come over us. At least, this was a one and done storm. The last time we had tornado warnings, it was like one every hour all night long. I tired to file a complaint, but Thor no longer takes my calls.
This morning, I had my cataract consultation. Now Mrs Magill and I need to sit down and look at the options, while getting the “no more glasses - ever!” option might be nice, I’ll probably go with the “You’ll still need readers” option.
Now to do the laundry that didn’t get done this weekend. Wait a second - that’s what I have kids home from college for!
FCM - How is FCD’s finger? I saw you all had push sticks. Is he using them, or is he just intending to use them.
JtC - Missing documentation is scary. Hopefully, it gets found soon. The last time I was in Raleigh, I picked up copies of out Marriage License, just in case.
Taters - I hear you on the house buying thing. It can be nerve-wracking. I still think Fang should have rented for a year, while waiting for on base housing to open up, but what are you going to do? You have to let them make mistakes. Otherwise they don’t learn.
Afternoon, mumpers! I haven’t checked the.weather today, it’s been beautiful and sprimg-like over the weekend, then in the night it absolutely heaved down for a while. We checked out.of our hotel, got the tram to the.station and went for lunch at a favourite pizzeria. We trained to Brussels then went to our usual bar for a beer before headimg to the Eurostar. A total of 30 minutes to get through security, Belgian passport control and then British border control. We went into the Eurostar business lounge for a glass of wine then were hustled out and onto the train 25 minutes before it was due to leave.
We will be back in London by 7pm, on a train towards home just after 8pm, and should be home by 10pm.
Wheely I am so sorry about the loss of your cat, that is such a tough thing to deal with.
Moooom please stop falling over, both of you!
oopsie is alive and well, I messaged her recently as I missed her posts, she has been overtaken by life, and will come back when she can
Thanks for the.update on Cupcakes, I was worried about her too.
Sticky_Buns I am.glad to hear your mum is improving, and close by now. That is a relief all round.
