March Madness Mother Nature Style In The MMP

Mrs. L.A. has a habit of throwing perfectly good stuff away. If it’s not useful to her, personally, it goes into the trash. I don’t think that useful things should be thrown away. Anyway, she wants to improve the kitchen drawers. She found two pot blacklights, and a skull blacklight. She wanted to throw them into the trash. I said no. I don’t have a use for them, but they’re usable. So I took them to the house diagonal from us, since I noticed they had a blue light in their living room. I met a 36-year-old guy, who gladly took them. And I found out he’s related to another neighbour.

I am in need of some new work shoes. I’ve worn through the leather that covers the steel (well titanium) toes. Sadly it appears that the style I’ve been wearing for 15+ years is no longer made by Timberland, the only one they have is with composite toes and bumpy leather, unless I want brown.

I’ve got the Working on My Taxes Blues. Ugh. When I called a month ago to set up an appointment for tax help at the Senior Center, the only slot they had left was 4/14, which I took, but it’s cutting it too close, so I went back to TurboTax. I had my documents all organized, but I never got a digital copy of my 2024 tax return, so I had to scan that. I messed up several times and got myself discombobulated, but the TurboTax guy, who has a thick accent, was very patient. I think it’s all set now. He’s calling me back tomorrow. My desk and computer desktop look like a hurricane hit the paper mill, and I have a headache. It’s Sunday, so it’s mini-martini day, but I may upgrade to a full-size one.

Once again, I’m woefully behind. on the MMP I’ve had dogs every day (two days were Ms. Dog, who’s a freebie), plus family issues to take care of. I’ll try to do better this upcoming week.

Calgon Costco vodka take me away…

Good evening everyone. Home from an afternoon at the capital. It was hot. There are times I regret choosing my Handmaid uniform, it gets my point across and I can layer up during the winter, but long skirts just aren’t that great in the muggy WV heat.

While I’m happy to see more people joining us, it makes me sad that they are more upset over gas prices and the local National Guard kids who were killed than the real issues, but at least they are there. (and what about those Epstein Files anyhow? Is he going to start nuking Europe now that he’s learned that Iran fights back harder than a 13 year old girl?)

James is always cold. He’s colder than me and I wear UGGs most of the year. James loves this weather so we will be going out more now.

Hubs went out for a motorcycle ride and now he’s limping. If I was the suspicious sort, I’d wonder if he stopped at a biker bar and drank beer and ate a hamburger.

We are going to the only embroidery shop in the state tomorrow. I doubt I will actually buy anything, but I want to know what they have in the way of threads. We will stop by the distillery for 'shine but I won’t get the package in the mail until Tuesday.

I agree with you. The landfills are overflowing with out of date useful things, I try my best to never throw that sort of thing away. Nextdoor is great for that sort of thing. Post it for free and leave it on your porch for pick-up. You don’t even need to talk to anyone, just list it as “Free to the first person who shows up. If this listing is still up, it is still available, I will take this listing down when the item is gone.”

It worked in AZ and works in WV, I’d expect it would work in your neck of the woods as well.

We do love and miss you when you are gone, but your real life is important too. Dang about the taxes, it just doesn’t seem right that we have to keep paying for this disaster. It makes me have thoughts about taxes with out representation.

I HATE it when that happens. Why do they keep fixing things that aren’t broken? Brown work boots are just fine, you will be scuffing them up anyhow and brown doesn’t show the wear as quickly as black.

Looking at the time I have things that still need to be done before bed. I’ll try to check in later, but it is almost 2030 and I don’t stay up much after 2200 anymore.

Have great nights all.

Good grief, between soccer stuff and gym stuff and eating stuff, I never got to the MMP stuff until now. Slept in a bit, got my paper and breakfast and then played around the internet for a bit, then went to the gym right after lunch and exercised until 2:30pm, when I changed and went to the soccer fields to ‘mentor’ some new referees-in-training…I thought there would be 3-4, there were 15! new refs and I got to work for a couple hours with several of them, passing on my (questionable) wisdom and critiquing their work as they refereed some 10U soccer players. So didn’t get home till nearly six pm and dinner was needed, followed by answering a lot of soccer stuff, so it’s just now (nearly 8pm) that I finally can turn to my MMP friends. I suspect an early bedtime will be in store tonight.

Now let’s see what adventures I’ve missed..

Sticky Buns, best wishes to Mom, hope things get better.

boo fae, sounds like a good, active Saturday, And count me on the Beatles-side of the argument.

FCM, those are pretty impressive tables. May they find good use in your house.

Wheelie, might look into that Stanley Steemer idea, my rugs could use more attention than I can give them.

GenJ,

Nothing wrong with that, IMHO. And happy coffee-guzzling.

nellie, glad your taxes are done, Turbo Tax works well for me.

Good choice.

JtC, hope hubs is OK (and you don’t murderlize him). Good luck on the shopping trip tomorrow.

And I’m at the bottom of the page, feeling like I missed a great deal but too tired and weary to dig back into the thread. Take care all and if I don’t get back for a late-night final, I’ll see all y’all tomorrow on the next MMP.

Do you ever drink the same kind of coffee twice?

Howdy Y’all! I survived two church services and we decided to get a McLunch and brought it back to da cave to eat. I was all sniffly and sneezy at the church house. Pee-kahn pollen is one of my allergy triggers. I can’t complain, however, as I sat on the Vestry way back when the unanimous vote was taken to buy ten acres of land full of pee-kahn trees. I will deal until sometime in May. I also have church homework to do. Every three years I must update my “Safe Church, Safe Community” trainin’. No biggie as it’s all online and will probably not take more than an hour to complete. Allegedly it has been updated since I last did it. Hope so, as the videos were woefully outdated then. The information was relevant. but the videos were kinda laughable. We slothed the afternoon away and started rewatchin’ *Downton Abbey”, the series just cause.

We drink Ethiopian Yirgacheffe and like it a lot, but no Harris Teeter here, gotta order it online.

I used to, when I was too busy to play. Now I’m making up for lost time.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s currently 70 degrees Ferret Height(21.11 Centipedes).

Much the same as yours - they were creative and innovative, used a lot of new techniques and exploited advances in recording technology to great effect. On the other hand, a lot of their songs are in a very similar vein and frankly quite bland. He was trying to argue that there would be no modern music if it wasn’t for the Beatles, not so much that he thought they were his personal greatest band ever.

The fun part of the discussion was trying to explain to him that there’s a lot more to it than that. I’m not a Beatles fan, they’d split up long before I really started to appreciate music, so for me they were never a feature. Our analogy was that if the Beatles formed now, they would most probably be a product of Stock/Aitken/Waterman or Britain’s Got Talent

Music is extremely personal and subjective, and I also think there’s a lot to be said for the lived experience of it. People who were teenagers at the time would have a very different feel for the band and their impact than people who were teenagers 40 years after that. Rather than a greatest band ever approach, I think every generation has its own “defining” bands, mine is Queen, the 20-something’s band was Oasis. Two very different styles, and two bands who made an impact but not necessarily for the same reasons.
