March Madness Mother Nature Style In The MMP

I was at Pearl spring of '86 to spring of '87. Beautiful place, and I’m glad I got to see it, but I was ready to leave after just a couple of months.

In the fall of '97 I was up for orders, so I called my detailer to see what he had, hoping I’d get to stay in Norfolk. He offered me my choice of six boats – every one of which a) would be moving out to Hawaii within the next two years, or b) already was in Hawaii. I said okay, I’ll call you back next month. Called him again a few weeks later, and identified myself; he replied (and I quote) "Well, I know you don’t want to hear about Hawaii," and said he had one boat in Connecticut. I told him to pencil me in for it and let me check with my wife; she didn't want to move to Hawaii either, so fifteen minutes later I called him back and told him to erase the pencil and write me in in ink. Even the fact that I would have to cut my shore duty short and transfer three months early was a good deal, in my opinion.

All right – why the hell is this changing fonts and not printing what I tell it to?

After leftover corned beef & cabbage for dinner, Mi Esposa said, ‘I wish we had some cookies.’ So I went to the kitchen and started making toll house cookies. She didn’t know that we had Nestlé semi-sweet morsels. When she came to the kitchen to see what I was doing, she started giving me ‘advice’, because she’s an ‘expert at toll house cookies’. Like, don’t use the 1-cup measuring cup to measure dry ingredients, because it’s for liquids. (NB: There aren’t any liquids in the recipe.) And ‘Don’t use the mixer when you incorporate the flour mixture.’ How many batches of toll house cookies have I made in my life? Many. While I did eschew the 1-cup measuring cup (since she was there), I did use the hand mixer for the rest.

Anyway, I made a buttload of cookies. Apparently they are good, as she’s eating them. And I granted her wish.

Well, teams have been made up and sent to the coaches and the deluge of messages has started, but it’s 11pm and I’ll deal with it tomorrow.

JtC, happy bootleggin’ to your friend.

Coppertone, great news!

And heading off to Slumberland. Catch up with y’all tomorrow.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 83 and sunny. The big item on today’s agenda is deheathenization in which I have duty for both services. This will be the last early service for at least the next two Sundays. We will have one service on Palm Sunday and one Easter Sunday. There will also be the usual bazillion services durin’ Holy Week. This afternoon will involve our usual RDOS sloth. Any need to feed today will be via forage.

Coppertone conga rats on the gig! Hope this one works out for ya.

JtC I am sure your friend will appreciate the ‘shine.

FlyBoy you should win the spouse of the month award for makin’ the cookies.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization shall commence.

Happy Sunday Y’all!

Flyboy, I can totally relate. Because, um, which one of us has a degree in Culinary Arts and was a professional caterer for over 10 years? Oh, that’s right, it’s the one who is getting advice from her spouse on how to fry a pork chop (or whatever). It’s happened so often that I just find it amusing anymore.

It’s been a long week. I was actually reading along earlier but did ‘t get a chance to reply. Not sure what I said last about my mom, but now she’s having kidney problems. And because of said kidney problems she’s in pain and it’s making it difficult for her to do the pt exercises. But if she doesn’t do them, she’s going to get kicked out of the nursing home. This week is Spring Break. Amongst my daily appointments I’m going to have to dive deeper into this and see what we need to do to make sure she is getting what she needs.

Today I expect will be a clean the house kind of day. Rah.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. The usual morning cleaning, and afternoon sloth is on tap for the day. Spot will merely take 12 naps, and occasionally whisper “eckeckeck” at the vermin outside. It’s currently 52 degrees Ferret Height(11.11 Centipedes) outside, with the high getting to 88 Ferrets(all time record for the date is 89)

Congrats!

I get that at work. a lot.

I am so fortunate that FCD doesn’t cook and has no interest in it. Well, apart from omelettes - I can’t make one to save my life, but he can produce a great one with no effort. And, for the most part, he’ll eat what’s in front of him - after 40+ years, I know what he would rather not have, which makes mealtimes pretty straightforward.

Starting the day at 44 Ferrets, on the way to low 80s. We’ll go to the boat so I can figure out the hem on the hatch cover. We’ll also add snaps to the nav board covers - the last big wind almost pulled one off. Thank goodness for velcro!! I’m not sure what else needs doing there, but we shall see. And I should pull something out of the freezer for supper, since I slacked last night and we foraged. Maybe salmon?

Onward! Happy Sunday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with a predicted high of 12c/54f and cloudy. Weather app says “Don’t you just love the fucking greyness of everything? Fuck, neither do I.”

Sounds like a very productive and satisfying morning!

Definitely, and that’s something else that can go on the list of things to ask about when I manage to corner a Reform UK election candidate so I can ask for a list brexit benefits.

Taters I used to love being in the office before everyone else, it was a blissful bit of quiet time before the day’s madness started. Now, even on the quiet days when there are only three of us in, the other two are always ahead of me. I miss those quiet times too.

I can relate too, I am not a professional caterer but I’ve been cooking for myself for longer than I care to remember. Someone else in the house will start telling me how I should be doing something when he doesn’t even know what I’m making! Good job our kitchen is tiny and two people make it very crowded.

Yesterday was a busy one - after our friends popped by to collect their stuff, I went to the gym for an hour and a half, then home for a shower and lunch. I went into town to do some errands (including an absolutely vital visit to the bookstore), stopped at the retail park for get more cat litter, then went to get the car washed. Home to iron the new t-shirt that arrived in the morning, and waited for ‘im indoors to provide an early dinner.

After that, I got us an Uber into town, we went to see three bands at the Giffard and then went up the road to the Posada as it’s much quieter in there. Much as I love the Giff, it gets extremely busy especially when there are bands on there and at KK’s as well. The Posada was much quieter, we had a chat with pub friend Bandana Dave, and then a heated discussion with a 20-something about the fact that the Beatles were not the best band ever. He didn’t believe us, and went outside to have a sulky smoke break. Barmaid just laughed at him.

Home and in bed by 2am, now I’m drinking tea having tended to the needs to cats and am watching ‘im indoors faff about with his last bits of packing before he heads off to Scotland for a week. The rest of the day will be devoted to slothfulness.

Good morning, to all of you who are here and to all of you who are not quite here. This morning I feel like I’m in the latter category. Coffee is helping with the brain part, and the Tylenol is helping a little with the legs and right shoulder.

We got a new coffee maker. It’s a Hamilton-Beech Trio. Same brand as the old one, but not quite the same. We’ve yet to figure out whether a 14 oz. cup is really 14 oz.

Happy Sunday!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, have mojo pork in the crock and fixing to make cilantro-lime slaw. I’ll do rice and the black beans closer to supper. Other than that, it’s RDOS.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Finished the boat chores. On the way home for lunch, then we’ll build the second table. Then, who knows?

Which was your position, may I ask?
IMO, the Beatles were talented, inventive, and highly influential. I love a lot of their music, and some not so much. Not all of their “experimental” work produced a pleasant result.
But music is personal and subjective. One person’s Greatest Band Ever doesn’t have to be everybody’s.

Since Zoe died, Mrs W has been on a cleaning binge. In the past couple years, with two and then one sick cats throwing up (and in the final weeks, occasionally pooping) all over the house, it was needed. We replaced the large area rug in the barroom, and are in the midst of doing the same in the living room. Stanley Steemer is coming Tuesday to deep-clean the carpeted rooms. We were going to rent a Rug Doctor and do it ourselves, but decided a professional cleaning would be better and worth the extra money.

After that she wants to have a cleaning service come in and give the whole place a once-over (I don’t think that part is necessary, but it will make Mrs W happy, so okay).

Then we can settle into our newly humans-only house for a while.

A bleary howdy to all.
I woke up at 5 a.m., ugh. I miss younger days and sleeping for 8 or 10 hours at a time. The princess dog was delighted to get her breakfast an hour early and the sunrise was lovely. It was 60 ferrets then and forecast to hit a near-record high of 85 ferrets today.

Coffee was Lion Gold Roast in the paperless pour-over cone. It’s a lighter roast with a hefty caffeine kick, for special occasions like waking up before daylight for absolutely no reason.

Re: dogwood trees. I have consulted the local elders and they say the dogwoods bloom 3-4 weeks after the redbuds, so we’ve got about three weeks to go here before I can get a picture.

Another beautiful day to play in the dirt. I need to actually accomplish something, though. Half my time in the garden is spent just sitting there and thinking.

If it’s not in my house then there’s less chance I’ll step on a Lego barefoot.

There’s no telling how long, because that store uses old cash registers-- no scanners. Somebody has to tell a manager or they’ll never know. I felt a little guilty, but I did ask about the price, and other people’s screw-ups are seldom in my favor, and it’s coffee! I paid up and bolted with my loot.
They fixed it by my next trip and it looks like the sticker gun was off by a dollar-- they still use old-fashioned sticker guns, too-- $1.88 instead of $2.88 for an 8.8 oz brick, and my windfall cost them $72.

For those who don’t do the Book of Faces, here’s what we finished today. The slot car set was delivered today and we’ll get the trains in 2 weeks when I see my sister. The plan is to have it all set up for Roxy’s birthday party on April 18. The rest of the basement is a partial disaster area, but I’ll work on tidying it in the next few days.

Supper will be salmon and sides. But I’ve got time for a little rest till I must hit the kitchen.

I cleaned, dusted, and vacuumed. I changed Spot’s litterbox. I took out the trash and recycling, and filled the vermin feeder. I made shredded chicken tacos for lunch. Watching hockey now.

I go for the Harris Teeter light roast Ethiopian whole bean, in a drip coffee maker(Mr. Coffee, with the thermal carfe).

I was standing in the sunroom, a squirrel comes up on the patio, walks right up to the door where I am, stares at me, then slows walks away. Spot slept through the whole thing.

A thirty-five degree drop from yesterday.

Met up with the niece and husband for lunch at an arepa restaurant. Good food, decent prices. Then yakked at each other for a couple of hours at the hizzle. A good day.

With my new job, Date Night will need to change. Since I got off early for a PCP appointment Friday, we did get out to a Mexican dinner. Going forward, SWMBO ordained that we will have ‘Date Day’ after church on Sundays.

We went down the beach for lunch, and have just returned. I had two Manhattans with my fish & chips. (Yes, I was bad, eating those carbs.)

Here’s an interesting picture. We’re inside of the restaurant, looking out the window at the reflection of the beach in another, perpendicular window. As you can see, the reflection appears pink.

Imgur

I’m wondering why that is. One or both window filtering out the blue spectrum?

A hit has been put on you.:chipmunk::bow_and_arrow:

I bought a pair of brown, square-toed loafers from the Bass outlet store many years ago. (They’ve been gone for years.) I tried them on, and they don’t fit as they did when I bought them. Brand new. Mrs. L.A. says she can put them in the Nursemobile for donation. (FWIW, they were only , like, 50 bucks.)
