March Minirant Madness

I think the theory is people are bigots if they take any kind of history or experience into account when they assess somebody’s opinions. Deciding to disregard curly’s opinions because she has a proven track record of being a dumbass hardly seems bigoted.

I assume people like curlcoat take medical advice from their car mechanic and investment advice from their hairdresser, because after all it would be bigoted to rely on people who have a proven track record in a certain field, or to disregard someone who has no experience with that field.

Today I’m kicking myself for not jumping into grad school right after graduation.

This would not surprise me in the least.

Yeah, tried the hairspray/alcohol thing: Doesn’t get rid of Sharpie ink. Sigh.

And this is definitely not the first time I’ve discussed the harassment with school officials. I’ve talked to the bus driver, the assistant principal, and now the principal. If it continues, we’ll kick it up to the superintendent and/or school board. (Although my districts BOE member is a moron: When a school realignment issue was being protested by a very vocal group of parents - including me - I contacted her. Her e-mailed reply? “As your elected board member, it’s my job to carry out the superintendent’s decisions.” My reply? “You don’t really get this whole concept, do you?”)

No. I really only wear one, and it was my mother’s, who passed away almost a year ago. I wear it out of memory and some attempt to have some connection with my mother, but it is 22K gold and fairly heavy, and distracts me when I try to sleep with it.

Law firms are partnerships. If a vote of the partnership is taken to terminate the firm, then, poof, no more firm. Of course this massively identifies me, but what the hell.

I have never kept my creeper status closeted! I resent that!

Depending on your field, of course, but there is a HUGE advantage to real world experience before grad school in many areas. Law in particular.

Well fuck them, too, then. Good luck getting them to actually deal with anything. :\

No, I get the concept. What I’m wondering is why anyone would vote their firm out of existence. If you’re not happy, why wouldn’t you just go somewhere else? What is the tangible benefit to destroying your job and the job of everyone else who works there?

A dissolution is an orderly process - actually much better for the employees. It also makes client changeover etc easier. And despite what people think of lawyers, we actually have incredibly strong ethical requirements concerning duty to clients - they ALWAYS come first.

(bolding mine)

You coulda skipped that step. The job of a bus driver is to … drive a bus. If you’re expecting them to supervise/discipline the kids, then you’re also asking them to take their eyes off the road.

Have you talked to the parents of the kids in question yet?

villa, that sucks. I think I know which firm you are talking about. What a freaking mess. Good luck finding a new gig with no conflicts.

Thanks Carl. I have some good leads, and a little time off will be welcome (first in almost 6 years).

Staples. Seriously. I had a hysterectomy with an abdominal incision, and the top layer was closed with staples.

I think we have one of those in the office supply cabinet. Hang on a sec, be right back …

Try 100% acetone (like the professional-grade nail-polish remover). My husband is a barista and a goofball and therefore gets into Sharpie swordfights with his co-workers. It works on his aprons!

Alcohol will take Sharpie out of sturdy fabric. I use cheap vodka, but isopropal Alcohol from the drug store should work fine.

From dictionary.com - "big·ot /ˈbɪgət/ [big-uht]
–noun
a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion. "

Which would be SFG and Meyer6. Their ability to jump to unbelievable assumptions and to twist anything they don’t like into something that was obviously not said has to come from some pre-existing problem. Such as the latest example of SFG assuming that I am not black.

Or they could both just be incredibly stupid and/or gullible, since both repeat things that I’ve not said but were extremely poor (and probably bigoted) interpretations of something I posted.

Not to mention the bigotry displayed to anyone who isn’t completely besotted by children, especially women. Which of course is where all this started. There is no “PC-ism” in that case.

^^^ Ohferchrissakes.

New rant: just got the car back from the mechanic for its 90K rollover stuff: coupla filters, tranny flush, new battery, plus some other stuff I don’t recall. Anyway, ouch. It was nearly double what The Other Shoe and I had guesstimated. No funny stuff, we just really really lowballed ourselves. Now that I think about it, that’s the downside to owning reliable, sturdy cars: you take them in so rarely you forget what shit costs these days.

Yeah, right, we need to twist your words in order to come up with the vile statements you make. You are right about one thing though - my opinion of you does come from a pre-existing problem - my pre-existing belief that you’re an incurable dumbass.
