I’m hoping someone can help me. Some friends of mine are wanting to have a baby. she does not and never has smoked dope. but, he has and does still on occasion. They have had 2 miscarriges this year, and they are both concerned that maybe the dope smoking my have sonething to do with it. I have heard that if dad smokes dope it can have adverse affects on the heart of the fetus. But, I have been unable to verify this. Can anybody confirm or deny or even point me to a site (reputable) which may be able to help.
I don’t believe that that’s been proven, nor do I believe that there is any evidence that would make experts think that it’s true. If she’s had two miscarriges this year alone, I would suggest that she go see a doctor. Besides, if the father smoking pot had any effect on the baby at all, it would most likely be devolpmental things (physical deformities, retardation etc…), I believe miscarriges are usually a result of the mothers body doing something strage.
Bib, no disrespect, but this could be greivously misinterpreted.
Kids, there may well be no data on drugs causing chromosomal damage that lead to birth defects (I have no idea) but there’s an enormous fund of information that using drugs (both legal and not) while pregnant can do all manner of harm to the fetus.
Ladies, if you’re pregnant or are at risk of becoming pregnant, dodge the chemicals until you check with a physician.
This has been a public service announcement from a proud father of a healthy baby and the sad brother of a sister dead at age 2 from a developmental disorder.
The link is currently in dispute, but some studies found evidence of a link between the father smoking dope and incidence of fetal gastroschisis. I may have spelled that wrong, but in essence it’s when the abdominal wall fails to form correctly, so that some or all of the intestines are on the OUTSIDE of the body. It’s a pretty gruesome thing. It’s fixable, but after surgery a child might have some eating problems.
Like Qad said, no hard evidence.
But if I were a couple who were having fertility problems, you can bet I’d do EVERYTHING possible to improve my chances for a healthy baby. Including laying off the wacky weed.
I have researched the effect of pot use to death on individuals, but not in that particular situation. Officially the jury is still out, mostly due to a lack of proper study because the herb is still illegal, but all indicators point, IN GENERAL, that it is about as safe as a drug can be.
