Drinking is involved in 25 percent of fatal accidents. Alcoholics get brain damage, liver damage and seek nothing but the next drink. They die young.
Alcohol is a drug, we don’t need more drugs.
Don’t want to meet dope heads driving into fence poles.
But the main reason it will never be legalized is the insurance companies that have to pay for all those wrecks and hospital time. Their clout is enormous and they will vote the drugs down.
Marijuana already exists- I don’t really see what you’re shooting for here. The drug is already out there, so the question is ‘what is the most effective and intelligent way to deal with it?’
You could say the same about chocolate, TV, and skiing. You could say it about anything, really. No one “needs” more than basic nutrients, water, and air, but that obviously isn’t a good measure of what should be legal to possess.
I never said that marijuana caused schizophrenia. So your link only affirms my statement. For the same reason Epileptics don’t go near strobes, if you don’t want to trigger your* schizophrenia, don’t smoke pot.
*yes, yes, I know, it’ll get triggered later, but personally, me myself having a mental disorder, I’d rather let it develop slowly now instead of making it worse.
It’s funny how they can kill thousands of species of plant and animal a day, but they can’t kill off marijuana
No, you just implied it. You didn’t explain what you meant in the first place, so I don’t think the link affirms what you said. Marijuana can be a trigger for schizophrenia in some people (which you admit would happen anyway), but that’s not the case for the vast majority of people. “But hey, if you want schizophrenia” makes it sound like marijuana causes schizophrenia in otherwise healthy users.
Ummmm, people on pot don’t go driving into fence poles. You see people off their head on booze driving 90mph down residential streets and knocking over lampposts. But if that guy was smoking pot he’d be parked up somewhere trying to get at the airbag to see what colour it is. Pot lowers your inhibitions just like alcohol but it will make you paranoid as hell in that car. You will drive with much more caution than you ever would before.
So should you be allowed to drive a car when you’ve been smoking pot? Hell, no. But that not an excuse to ban pot, just like it hasn’t been an excuse to ban booze. Read my first post. I believe that we should take an all-or-nothing approach and we should. If we can be supposedly trusted to use the drugs already available then we should be trusted to use them all. If the government can actually start seeing that these drugs, all these drugs, are harmful for us then they should ban them all.
Sorry if I’m cribbing from Michael Moore, but if you think guns should be legal, does that mean we should be trusted with nukes? Some things might just be more dangerous than others.
Other countries have experimented with legalizing drugs and the results were disasterous. Notable England and Holland.
People can not control themselves when on drugs and do harmful things to those who are not stoned.
Drugs will never be legalized, this thread is useless.
If you hate yourself so much you need to run away into a fog of drugs, you need help.
Love
What disasters are you talking about? I’ve never heard any of our British or Dutch (or Canadian) dopers post about how disastrous these laws were.
People who cannot control themselves can hurt others regardless of what they’re doing.
It does look like there’s a trend to it, and if you’re going to wave your hands and say the thread is useless, I’ll remind you nobody’s forcing you to post in it.
Nobody’s saying drug abuse is a good thing. But it’s very misleading (and maybe somewhat rude) of you to imply that anybody who smokes pot hates himself and is running away into a fog of drugs.
Ahh yes, I remember when England legalised pot…Hang on, no I don’t because they didn’t. Get your facts straight.
I agree with Marley on this. This is GD lekatt so make your argument, don’t just assume you know what we as a people want or that this thread is useless.
tracer, I believe that zagadka is referring to the fact that he (she?) is schizophrenic, and marijuana can trigger schizo episodes. That’s where the hallucinations come from.
My view, which i was going to add into my post, is that most drugs except amphetamines, cocaine and (maybe) opiates should be legalized. i don’t see how that would lead straight to hell.
Maybe you are referring to the UK’s attempt to provide heroin to addicts, and they just resold it and bought harder street stuff, i remember reading about that program.
lekatt, love isn’t a drug. I can just imagine the campaign (“Say no to Love”) and the GD threads that would follow (“If we ban Love, shouldn’t we also ban Sunshine, Rainbows and Gumdrops? Studies show Sunshine is much more dangerous for drivers and Rainbows lead to violence…”)
