Marijuana - Legalize It?

You really need to provide some cites for your claims.

Does that include the caffine in tea, coffee and Cokes? If not why not?

When you say “poisonous” just what do you mean by that? If you just mean detrimental to your health, then ice cream is poisonous.

Yes!

Legalize it. Without delay.

There is no good reason I can see for keeping it illegal.

I don’t know what a national poll would be like, but I bet it would be about the same ratio as it is in this post. Considering this board carries everyone from all walks of life.

I would really love an answer to this question. We have something called the House of Representatives. If a national poll was conducted and showed a large favor for legalizing pot, even 50.0000001%, then it should be. The representatives are supposed to represent us, and not the vocal minorities. That’s the problem though, those that are for it (whether they smoke or not), are not loud enough. So SCREAM PEOPLE!

How about we get an actual nationwide vote on this and not some cheezy AP Poll? The states can setup there own rules for plant possesion and such, but damn it, pot being illegal is downright stupid. There is not ONE strong argument to keep it illegal.

For whatever good it will do, I’m going to start up a thread like this on Kerry’s official message board and link to this thread from that one. There is no way in hell Bush would consider the proposal, and this string of posts is not likely to have much effect either. But nothing’s going to get changed if we sit on our asses…Some Kerry aide has got to read those boards, and if he gets elected, there’s always the minute possibility if there are tons of posts on that thread, someone will bring it to his attention.

I would say email him too, but I can’t (and haven’t tried very hard to) figure out how.

Note: This is not meant to be offensive to republicans, if you support legalization and feel like doing the same for Bush, feel free. I just see absolutely no chance with him, and at least a miniscule chance with Kerry.

The thread on Kerry’s board can be found right here:

I hate to postwhore, which this seems like. I wish I could edit this into one post.

Nonetheless, I figured out how to just email Kerry. It’s under “Contact Us” and “General Comments”, located on the right side of the page.

The funny part is I don’t really smoke pot, I just have a lot of friends (and some really smart ones), who do.

I completely disagree. The way marijuana lowers your inhibitions is much different than the way alcohol does. Alcohol is the number one rape drug because it so very effectively lowers inhibitions. I’ve never heard of women giving into sex because they were high.

Drunk people do stupid things and say embarrassing things because their inhibitions are so lowered. Not the case for marijuana.

Here’s my thing: I lived in Berkeley for 6 years. Pot isn’t legalized there, but it might as well be.

Guess what? The place hasn’t fallen to pieces. Drug-addled zombies don’t wander the streets attacking people. Crime isn’t off the charts (it is actually pretty low). There aren’t constant traffic accidents. And there are a helluva lot of very, very smart people around. The Hand of God hasn’t reached out to smite us.

The “Reefer Madness” thinking just doesn’t work out in real life.

yes, caffine is a drug, it artifically stimulates the body. Keeps you awake, etc.

As for ice cream, it’s great, I love it, and eaten in moderate amount causes no imbalance in your system.
Why do you want “highs”? Why are you so unsatisfied with your lives that “highs” are wanted?

Love

:smack: I did mean both lower reactions but inhibitions slipped out.

How can you completely disagree and then say that both do, in fact, lower inhibitions? I didn’t say that both had the same effect, anyone who has seen a drunk person and a high person can tell you that. Alcohol acts as a depressant and so fits with your “date rape” concept, even though it has nothing to do with this argument. But both still lower inhibitions because people in both circumstances act without certain constraints.

I really don’t think marijuana lowers your inhibitions at all, at least not in the sense that it makes you more likely to commit some kind of criminal violence. If anything, it raises your inhibitions to any kind of vigorous activity at all. It’s hard to be slowly and calmly menacing.

I’d like to ask you to refrain from telling others why they do anything. I mean, you’re only saying that because you’re so full of doubt about your own beliefs, and you’re trying to convince yourself by lecturing others.

Why do anything? Are you so unsatisfied with your life that you need a significant other, or children, or money?

Why don’t you move out with the Amish?

Marijuana lowers your inhibitions but it does raise your paranoia level. If you are with people who you are close with, you will do things much more freely. Have you standing, waiting out in public for a kebab one night is a whole other story. You are totally less likely to commit criminal offences because of it.

So you think coffee and tea should be banned? :dubious:

We want “highs” because very few of us in this world have meaningful, and purposeful existences. Some people do drugs, some people jump out of planes. What’s the difference when someone risks their life getting “high” on adrenaline?

Your idea of sending out “love” is getting totally warped by the fact that you consider us to be lesser individuals based on our view on drugs.

Please, just ignore Lekatt. Hes a mindless robot.

I can’t believe I actually registerd on a JK site. Anyway, I look forward to outcome of that thread.

Lekatt, it may surprise you, but people get high forfun. For the majority, getting high is not to “escape” reality, but to to have a pleasure, ejoyable sensation. (Which is why you eat ice cream, if you think about it.)

Most drug users are not depressed junkies. They’re folks who have a job and a mortgage just like you do, families and friends, with happy, fulfilling lives. They just happen to enjoy the feeling their drug of choice gives them when they use it.

For a lot of people, it’s no different than drinking at a party, and doesn’t really affect their lives. They function just the same as the rest of us, the only difference being that instead of drinking beer when they get home, they may indulge in an illegal substance that gives them a similar effect.

…and just because it’s illegal, doesn’t mean it’s bad.

I’m getting an error: “Sorry, the link that brought you to this page seems to be out of date or broken.”

Did they delete the thread?

It got merged into another thread that they already had running on the subject- this one.

It does affect your life. Everything you do does.

I smoked cigarettes for over 20 years, most of that time I wished I could quit.
In fact, I don’t know a single person who smokes and doesn’t want to quit.

The 'high" effect gets less and less as time goes by and more and more drugs are needed to sustain it. That is addiction, the same with cigarettes.

Twenty years from now will you still want to get high or will you just want to quit.

I know you won’t stop just because I ask you too, but I hope you do consider the consequences. What will you tell your children.
