Marines to deploy to LA

Have there been any reports on the current location and activities of the Marines?

Last I heard, they are training at the Naval Weapons Base in Seal Beach. These are infantry trained for urban warfare; not MPs.

Then ‘deployment’ is still a possible future event. From what I see on TV they’ll need a reservation to get a place to stand.

They are within minutes of multiple communities ICE might target.

In which case, I’d recommend not commenting on the current news. Claiming to ignore it while also wanting to go on about it online doesn’t go over well.

Good point. They could operate out of the military base. Very bad optics - the military might not like that.

It’s already bad optics, no matter how they run it.

The whole point of it being the Marines is that Trump wants to live up to a cliche of a strongman: “Send in the Marines!”

A core competency of this administration.

Great post, thanks.

Plus ca change…

Less dated than I wish it were.

For might makes right
And till they’ve seen the light
They’ve got to be protected
All their rights respected
Till somebody we like can be elected

Members of the corps
All hate the thought of war
They’d rather kill them off by peaceful means
Stop calling it aggression
Ooh, we hate that expression!
We only want the world to know
That we support the status quo
They love us everywhere we go
So when in doubt
Send the Marines!

I’ve been to Seal Beach several times. There’s a railroad spur that’s used to bring the munitions in. Trains can take the troops and their supplies anywhere in the metro area.

Public transport? That’s socialist!

Not as fast as trucks…or helicopters.

Trains are so . . . 1940s.
It sounds even funnier sadder in the original German…

But ICE could use them to transport alien populations in box cars.

You mean…freight trains? I’m sure those troops will love sitting in the Rialto Rail Yard for days on end while UP sidelines them. Make sure to stencil “DO NOT HUMP!” on the containers ensuring that railyard employees take special care to run them over the hump line repeatedly for everyones’ amusement. Or put them on Amtrak so they can be repeatedly sidelined in the middle of Arizona.

Stranger

I had to look this up. It was less smutty than I supposed.

At least Trump will make them run on time. /s

Citation only. And in any case, the courts lean towards the First Ad-
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.- even if they dont have a permit, in fact IIRC the courts have ruled that a permit is not necessary for a protest.

So, “lawless” is a huge exaggeration.

Exactly one person was arrested for actually throwing a molotov cocktail (one guy apparently had one, but didnt use it). No injuries were reported, AFAIK. And yeah, in every big protest there are a few bad apples and also often some agitators working for the government or anarchists. So, you got one guy - hardly 'lawless".
