Market Research: Would you buy this for Christmas presents?

I want to sell some silver coins during christmas. However, to get the best deal, I have to buy in bulk. I’m hoping the christmas rush will make them sell quickly.

My questions:

  1. Do you think these coins would make great gifts?

Austrian Philharmonic, 1ozt .999 silver: http://www.providentmetals.com/2013-silver-philharmonic-1-oz-austrian-bullion-coin.html

OPM 1ozt silver round (not legal tender): http://www.providentmetals.com/ohio-precious-metals-opm-1-oz-999-fine-silver-bullion-round-iso-9001.html

  1. Would you buy it only if it came in a nice box and/or some sort of display? I’m thinking like a gold foil jewelry box, a plastic case, and small stand so it sits on a shelf or desk.

  2. For either of the coins above plus the display kit, would you pay ~$30 for it? Silver price is roughly $21-22 per ozt right now.

thanks in advance.

I have a tradition of buying my husband silver coins for Xmas. However, He wouldn’t be interested in the coins/rounds that you link to. He vastly prefers American coins (the Walking Liberty) or rounds that connect to one of his interests. He would accept either of the ones that you list, but I know that he’d prefer the Walking Liberty coin.

He has some of the coins on display in a frame. The coin and jewelry shop where I buy the coins throws in a plastic case for free, and the last time I checked, they charged about $25 a coin…it’s been a while since I checked, though.

Bottom line is, I do buy silver, but I’d only buy from a shop that I know. I wouldn’t buy silver from someone I don’t know, especially if that person is not an established seller of coins and jewelry.

If I can buy the coin for 10% over spot, why would I buy it from you for 40% over spot? As Lynn Bodoni points out, a case and stand are often included for free when buying from a dealer. There needs to be a value-add.
