Marni Nixon has died

The voice of so many musicals, dubbing for people like Audrey Hepburn, Deborah Kerr, Natalie Wood and others who had trouble carrying a tune. Truly someone who was 20 feet from stardom for much of her life.

Here’s an odd fact: she was the mother of Andrew Gold, best known for “Lonely Boy” and “Thank You for Being a Friend.”

She appeared as herself in the final episode of “The Mothers-in-Law”. Not that she killed the show off, but it was interesting to for once see and her as Marni Nixon.

After a brief service she was buried under Audrey Hepburn’s headstone.

For several years, with a break in between, I was active in local community theater. Usually sound or lighting. The one time I appeared on stage was with “An Evening With Marni Nixon”. She appeared, talked and sang, and I was the guy in black trousers and shirt who came onstage to refill her water glass.

She was a very nice [del]woman[/del] lady.

I saw Marni Nixon play the head nun when they had a one-night only performance of the play version of the Sound of Music at the Hollywood Bowl.
