We didn’t have anything specific in our vows about the duration of the marriage, but in in private we vowed to each other that if the marriage was no longer fulfilling our needs, and we had made every reasonable effort to fix the issues, we wouldn’t stay together, miserable, 'til death do us part.
We wrote our own vows and made them pretty practical. I’ll see if I can find a copy.
How about: “I, John, take you, Marsha, – as is.” That would be nice.
In thinking back, though, I wouldn’t mind if my husband had added that line from the very formal Church of England ceremony: “With my body I thee worship.”
