Marry a Millionaire babe's different tune

Read it again, Cyb. I mentioned a difference between serving in combat and just serving in the military.

“Naval personnel serving on ships” does not exclude me although for the last four years I’ve been on shore duty. And in shortly over an hour and a half I will be a Personnelman First Class in the Fleet Reserve. That’s also called Retired E6. I have served, on ships, in the combat zone, and I was part of my squadron’s Operations Department for a good portion of that service.

So, ftr, are you always this rude, E3, to those who outrank you? Not that I actually believe you’re in the Sevice, but your response could be good for another laugh.

Anyway, I do apologize to one class of Servicemembers I overlooked in my previous posting: The Army also had ships in the combat zone and some of the crew on those ships were Soldiers who hold marine MOS (and I bet cyb thinks that means Soldiers who used to be Marines).

Monty

Monty, I’m not being rude, I’m just defending myself from YOUR unwarranted attacks. YOU threw the first stone, not me.

Hopefully the post from Bluepony was more enlightening than mine and you now understand the error of your statement.

Many Servicemembers felt that those Soldiers captured in the former Yugoslavia didn’t deserve the Purple Heart medals awarded to them by the government. But, and this is the important thing to remember here, regardless of your personal opinion in the matter, those folks met the requirements set for the medal concerned. If you don’t lke it, take it up the chain of command or with the government. But no matter how long and loud you shout “it ain’t so,” well, guess what, it is so.

C’mon, Monty, you’ve been in long enough to know that the Order of the Purple Heart has a strict guideline. You have to be wounded (or killed) by enemy actions. Having been to Grenada, Panama and Desert Storm, I have seen the award of the Purple Heart to fellow comrades, and I would be the last person to question battle honors rightfully earned. As to the soldiers in the Yugoslavian operations, I’m not sure of the controversy, having retired from the service last year. If the soldiers sustained injuries while evading or being captured, then the Purple Heart is justifiably awarded. Period. You get no flak from me.

Getting back to the original OP, if Ms. Conger claimed the status of something she wasn’t while in the military, then this is a dishonorable act. It is a reprehensible and heinous, deserving of contempt from anyone who ever served their country, or, for that matter, anyone who believes in a sense of honor.

Of course, honor is a subjective thing and Ms. Conger plainly had other aspirations on her mind more pressing than her alleged Gulf service.

Bluepony, I share your healthy skepticism that ANYONE would feel that a person wounded in Yugoslavia, or anywhere while in uniform for the country, was not entitled to the Purple Heart. What possible grounds would they have for such feelings? I think it is a BS story.

Ms. Conger is trying to wrap herself in undeserved glory in an attempt to regain her lost credibility and avoid the shame of her shallow act.

Had he actually called you Cyberain, I would agree with you (or at least agree that he had made a typo). Calling you Cyberian, while not overly polite, is simple fact.

Monty, to be fair, John is not claiming current service. His claim is that he was in several years ago. (I have no idea in which years he claims to have been a Marine.)

Tom~

Actually, Tom, what I find even funnier is this sig line:

Can’t believe I missed seeing that “grunt” posting that he is or was in a Headquarters and Staff Company; i.e., an “Office Pinky” outfit. Especially when I served in a Fighter Squadron; i.e., not an “Office Pinky” outfit but an “actual combat unit.” (I place that last part in quotes so’s y’all know that I don’t share cyb’s ignorance.)

Monty, you continue to show your service ignorance, especailly of an infantry combat unit. H&S Co company supports with Flame throwers, when that was a weapon of company, machine guns, rocket launchers, 105s etc. I was in a line company. I was trained on all those weapons. I’m sure the weaponry has changed a tad since my time but the company support might still be the same. Is there a more recent Marine infantry Vet that might tell me if it’s still the same?

Monty, go change to typewriter ribbon.

Fact? This is based on WHAT fact? You, of course, can supply that? You do know what a fact is?

Pas grande chose.

Cyb, I know you’d dearly love to believe that, but let’s come back to reality for a few ok? You’re the one who looks foolish for DENYING it.

Anyone who has any doubt left (not that there is anyone) need only compare John John’s style with one of his old threads, where he admitted to being Cyberian: http://fathom.org/cgi-bin/sdmb_archive.pl?read=272

I’m glad to see that you are once again on an even keel, Katherine.

What do you think of Darva Conger ?

Pas grande chose.

Of course, I know what a fact is. One example of a fact is that you are the person who posted on AOL/SDMB as Cyberian54 and Optamissed (among a host of other sigs). I explained how and why that fact was very clear in your thread ranting against the first lady’s derrière. (I also mentioned, there, that I consider your denials of this fact to be an affront to the spirit of the Straight Dope and that, while you may either ignore or admit references to your life as Cyb, denials of that fact (i.e., lies) will be challenged or laughed at.)

So what was your MOS? Second assistant cook’s helper?

Tom~

tom

I see you speculating based on nothing solid and a distinct lack of PROOF BASED ON FACT. You are losing credibility, tom, with all these accusations and nothing but your Cyberian obsession to guide you. You need to o let go and face a new day. I really think you had a “thing” for the chap.

MY MOS was 0300, basic infantry, 0311 and O34- something? and 035- something?. I think it was 0351 and 0341 but my memory is cloudy, it’s over 25 yrs

Pas grande chose.

Tom, you told me you were not in the service. Is that correct? Do you know what MOS stands for?

Pas grande chose.

I don’t remember what the initials stand for, but MOS is the basic “what are you fit to do” classification in the military. One need not be in the service to know about the service.

I have made no speculation about anything. Calling you a “Second assistant cook’s helper” is a cheap shot, nothing more.

Oh, and according to you-as-Cyberian on AOL, last year, your MOS was 0341, 0351 when you were in the USMC 1st Batt 6th Marines. Interesting how “John John” and Cyberian served in the same outfit with really close MOS’s at about the same time.

Tom~

MOS means Military Occupational Specialty. It is not what you are fit to do, but what you actually do.

tom

There were times that is what I wished I did. I also did not like pulling Mess Duty in garrison, while back mainside.

No one I know who actually served in the military - let alone saw real (not imagined) combat - would ever “forget” this…

Surely there’s a way to check out John’s claims. Records must be on file somewhere, and I’m pretty sure someone here remembers his last name (Macca doesn’t post here, but I think he’s got the Straight Dope on this. It’s Mc-something, isn’t it?)? Anyone with connections know how to ferret this stuff out?

StoryTyler
“Not everybody does it, but everybody should.”

I dunno. I’m willing to let him be an ex-jar head. I object to John’s constant pretending that he is not Cyberian54/Optamissed, but I see no reason to run down every little factoid to see whether he has always told the complete truth about his entire life.

I suspect that most posters can form pretty accurate opinions about John based on his current activity.

Of course you’re right.

[pout]But Wally and I found this neat flashlight, and we’re playing “SPOTLIGHT! STAGEFRIGHT!” with it, and… Aww, maannnnn…[/pout]

SlobStory

I’m not surprised the flashlight fits. I guess you and Wally have to get your kicks somehow, but it does seem perverted.

I must say I would be surprised if John John turned out to be an adult. I had assumed from the puerile tone and content of his posts that he was an adolescent.

Is it possible that he is actually referring to the service record of an adult relative? Or that he has made it up out of the whole cloth?

Any road up, if he is really as old as he says he is, he must be mentally unhinged.

[Cue three consecutive anti-British rants …]
