OK, the Mars Lander seems to have disappeared completely, at least from the news. But I seem to remember that they were going to try to photograph the landing area to see if they could at least spot the parachutes. Did they? Any more theories on what happened?
The Mars Global Surveyor started imaging the landing area on the 16th. According to the lander web site (http://marslanding.jpl.nasa.gov/) it will take them about two weeks to completely image the entire site, so they should know something after the start of the year.
