Which makes them morally bankrupt and stupid. Giving free money to a possible murderer just because you’re convinced the State has acted politically is supposed to do what, exactly? It doesn’t punish the establishment and it doesn’t benefit the public. All it does is reward a man for taking another person’s life, thus increasing the likelihood that someone else will do what he did.
Since when is paying a lawyer considered “profiting?” O’Mara estimates that defending Zimmerman will cost between $500,000 and $1 million. The gun nuts and the mouth-breathers better keep those cards and letters coming, folks.
But Martin had THC in his system!
According to his defense attorneys, Zimmerman lied to the courts about the PayPal account because of his “fear, mistrust and confusion”. Oh my, how poorly he functions under those conditions.
Hey, you know who else might have been afraid and confused?
According to discovery documents, GZ made almost 150 telephone calls over an 8-day period while in jail.

I don’t understand how this is even possible. Was he in jail or was he camping out in a telemarketing call center? Help me figure this out, yall. I don’t even know if I’ve made 150 phone calls in my entire life as a free woman. But this guy, while in jail, did enough reaching out and touching someone to generate 3 CDs worth of data in little over a week.
Again, I must reiterate how eager I am to see these text messages. It will also be interesting to see if he incriminated himself in other ways in those taped phone conversations.
Am I the one who read this and immediately thought Hitler?
Yes. I am almost certain that the convincing evidence that caused the state to file is in those messages.
I didn’t know you were allowed that much phone time in jail.
From the link in PotLuck’s post:
So Zimmerman is frustrated that the judge caught him in his lies. Lies induced by the stress of everyone giving him a hard time for killing someone–an act resulting from a confrontation that he could have easily avoided by simply exhibiting the wisdom of a typical 28-year-old.
He sounds like a guy who has no problem eschewing personal responsibility. So tell me again why he has so many conservatives giving him money?
I have no idea if O’Mara is a good lawyer or not, but he’s really not making me feel sorry for his client.
A part of me wonders if O’Mara secretly hates Zimmerman, because he has basically admitted his client is a liar who thinks with his emotions.
I think some cells have phones (heh, “cell” phones) in them, but the thing is that they take advantage of the captive audience, and gouge people on the fees for using them, so they don’t mind at all if you use them a lot. But the cost wasn’t a problem for Zimmy, since he apparently has so many admirers willing to finance him.
Dershowitz is a joke. In his world there are no criminals, just corrupt cops and political prosecutors. He should put his money where his mouth is and rush down to Florida to join the defense team. Zimmerman would fit in nicely with all the other scumbags he’s defended.
If what you say is true, then I guess Angela Corey must have a very thin skin for spending 40 minutes on the phone berating him and threatening to sue him. It wasn’t like Dershowitz wasn’t the only lawyer that had negative published comments about her probable cause affidavit. I wonder if all of them got this treatment? Is Dershowitz even licensed to practice law in Florida?
The Tampa Bay Times has conducted a comprehensive review of all known SYG cases and has found highly variable outcomes. One of the problems in doing such a review is that since SYG results in immunity from charges even being filed, there are often no official records kept for some cases.
It makes for some very interesting and very depressing reading.
An interesting article, but they don’t provide statistics from before the SYG passed to provide insight into the numbers they provide.
I don’t get why anyone should put any stock in Dershowitz’s opinion. The court is in the best position to say whether Corey has been deceitful, not some armchair spectator who thinks he’s special because he has JD behind his name. He knows as much about this case as Junebug the gas attendant.
Apparently, Corey took his opinion seriously. Maybe you should explain why he touched a nerve and she ignored the local attorneys and commentators saying pretty much the same thing. What the Jacksonville Papers and TV stations say should be 100 times as important to her than Dershowitz’s articles.
She sure hasn’t scored any points by opposing publishing the discovery evidence.
The defense joined her to oppose the publishing of additional evidence, so I guess any points for that balance out.
