This is purported to be an e-mail to her from one of Leatherman’s followers she posted. I am sure it’s legitimate since she had absolutely no reason to think she made it up:
GZ-haters have my condolences. Looking forward to hearing the denial and/or spin.
A person’s limitations in understanding aren’t the limitations of the world. As I posted earlier, the right ventricle sends blood to the lungs, which provide oxygen in a feedback loop, which circulates throughout the body. Trayvon wouldn’t
necessarily die right away, his heart can continue pumping, until he either bleeds to death, or all the oxygen in his bloodstream is consumed. The lit flashlight could conceivably have been where the fight actually happened, and not where Trayvon ended up. IMHO. I wouldn’t be surprised if a medical expert, if there’s a trial, wouldn’t say the same thing.
And here we are. It is probable he was alive, probable he was conscious, and probable he could have spoken, cussed, groaned, etc.
I suppose she could write them back to see if it’s possible/probably that he could have sat up, moved his hands under his chest, etc. Also, I’m not sure that Zimmerman described Martin as “fighting back”. I think he may have described it in terms of offering some resistance. But I haven’t heard those points brought up as much as the lungs one, so she may not.
There is still a good chance that she may ask the expert what his physical mobility would have been. So, in light of the “he could have spoken” evidence, do you want to adjust your statement that it’s 99.999999% improbable that qualified medical professionals would assert that Zimmerman’s account of Martin’s post-shooting behavior was possible?
You know, I want to make something clear: I don’t hate George Zimmerman. I just think he is a narcissistic asshole who is lying through his teeth. I also think that most of you don’t believe him entirely, but are so thirsty to see a black man shot that most of you induce a temporary (and selective) suspension of belief. George Zimmerman has lied about his personal finances, has been arrested before, molested a family member, beat on his girlfriend, bullied his colleagues, and lacked the intelligence (or g as my race-conscious friends here love to call it) to complete 60 fucking credits at a community college. Then, on top of that, we have a man who has a mental disorder and is prescribed mood stabilizers in conjunction with amphetamines and benzodiapenes. If George Zimmerman were black with all of these faults, he’d be strung up on a tree so quickly that’ll make the public crucifixion of Michael Vick (and he only killed a dog; white people: dog > black people) look like a celebration.
I also think its funny that when Fox News interviewed Trayvon Martin’s family to discuss Zimmerman’s remarks, did you know that they never once said “We’re sorry for your loss” or any words of sympathy (I’m begging you to ask for a cite). As a black man, I can tell you that one thing that I’ve learned from Straight Dope - which has, unfortunately, been confirmed in the real world - is that white people, generally speaking, do not look at non-whites with the same humanity as they view themselves. We’re just brown animals. Frankly, if whites didn’t want us here, they should’ve sided with Malcolm X rather than pretending that King’s vision was better.
As for Bricker, please stop slobbing over his dick. It’s embarrassing. The law has never been a safe haven for blacks or minorities. I doubt even Bricker, with all of the ball-stroking that’s been going on, will tell you otherwise. Or, better yet, let’s do the math: You have a small town of 53,570 people. The population contains 57% White, 30% Black and 20% Latino. What is the statistical probability that an all-white jury will be selected?
You believe Zimmerman is a “narcissistic, lying asshole who murdered Trayvon”. But you don’t hate him. Got it.
No, I have no desire to see innocent black men be shot. I also have no desire to see an innocent self-identified hispanic man be imprisoned when he may have acted in self-defense.
But maybe the races involved are what it’s all about for you? Maybe you are “so thirsty” to punish someone who may have wrongfully killed a black man that you rushed to judgement and ignored evidence that strongly suggests a distinct, arguably likely, possibility that he may have been acting in self-defense? That seems much more likely to me.
Since I’ve already addressed these before, I’ll just summarize by stating that these characterizations of George Zimmerman are misleading, inaccurate, out of context, and/or completely irrelevant.
Wow.. we need to get these people off the street, before they kill any more black men! Many people, including myself, take medications for A.D.D. None of the symptoms of the disorder nor side-effects of the medications include a propensity to murder innocent young black men. So, chances are, other factors played a more important role in what happened.
If Zimmerman were black, he would have been released back into the community without anyone but those close to TM caring about it. You act like this is 1812 or 1912. It’s 2012.
There aren’t a bunch of innocent black men being gunned down by whites or hispanics, being lynched for defending themselves, and if a white quarterback did what Vick did to those dogs, you would see very much the same reaction.
Does racism still exist? Sure. But it bears little resemblance to the way you make it sound. The crime statistics actually suggest that white people are far more apt to be victimized by a black person than vice versa. I realize that white victims of crime are probably not of enormous concern to you. You approach the issues from a “black man’s” perspective.
However, in 2012, the black man ought to be worried a whole lot more about other black men than white people. Black people face a new set of problems now- and 90% of them come from within.
Doesn’t mean that when a black man is shot in the back of a squad car that you don’t look at it closely. Or when a black, unarmed teenager is shot and killed that you don’t look at it more closely. These things ought to be investigated.
And we should work to ensure that racism, bias, and unfair prejudice are reduced to the degree that they reasonably can.
But I would focus 90% of your energy on what is causing 90% of the black community’s problems, instead of 90% of your energy on what causes a very small percentage of problems.
By doing so, you will do more to eliminate racism, bias, and prejudice than you ever could have done by accusing white folks of thirsting to see black men shot.
This is because a good portion of the racism, bias, and prejudice that exists today doesn’t come from some institutional-wide indoctrination or even from prejudices handed down from racist parents. It comes from simply observing human beings.
The problem is not so much the stereotypes white people have of black people. The problem is more so young black people idolizing negative black stereotypes. Trayvon didn’t self-identify with Bill Cosby, Barack Obama, Colin Powell, Will Smith, or black men with a positive, constructive message. He didn’t call himself “AviationLover”. He called himself, “No Limit Nigga”, based on a song with “C-Murder” and “Fiend”. http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/No-Limit-Niggas-lyrics-Kane-Able/19D611DD392ABED048256A29002969D7
But 100% of the problem was Zimmerman’s “racism”, the police department’s “racism”, and the prosecutor’s “racism”. I’d suggest, if you look really hard, you might see some other things that might be worthy of your intention. Nope.. TM was just a “typical teenager”. I doubt that very much. But let’s say that’s true? What does that say about the state of things in the black community? That young black men typically are suspended three times, have backpacks with women’s jewelry, identify with the gangster rap culture, etc? Doesn’t that make it even worse?
The black community has some serious problems. Many, if not the vast majority, of these problems can be attributed indirectly to the way they were treated for a long period of time. And it is well beyond an unfortunate part of our history. It is an enormous stain upon the purported legacy of our country. It makes the glorification of our founding fathers, and our oft-stated “claim to fame”, freedom, seem laughable, and the very worst in hypocrisy.
That being said, even if every problem the black community has can be directly or indirectly attributed to racism, bias, and prejudice.. the reality is that 90% of the solution, at this point, is going to have to come from within. That’s my opinion anyway.
Don’t misquote me, please. I said that Zimmerman is a “narcissistic asshole who is lying through his teeth” I didn’t write “narcissistic, lying asshole who murdered Trayvon”. And no, I don’t hate George Zimmerman. I don’t even know him.
Not surprising. ADD or ADHD? Have you considered asking your psychiatrist for mood stabilizers and benzodiapenes. Though I bet my bottom dollar you already have the latter. Gotta come down, right?
Ridiculous.
I’d imagine he’d be on trial for manslaughter. The idea that blacks are out there getting away with crimes is ridiculous. I strongly suspect that blacks are more likely to be charged and incarcerated for a crime than whites. Would be fascinated (and, frankly, relieved) to find evidence of the contrary.
That was a a truly stupid thing to say. You’ve projected your poisoned view of others in a mindset of superiority that’s in line with groups like the KKK. People defending Zimmerman have repeatedly said they don’t care about him and would acknowledge actual evidence that changes the dynamics of the case. Nothing in the public domain comes close to that now.
You couldn’t be a bigger jerk now. Bricker has done nothing but explain the law. He’s a LAWYER. It doesn’t make him a Supreme Court Justice but his input is light years ahead of the armchair internet lawyers arguing with him.
Haha, you’re comparing me to the KKK? Geez. Do I get a nifty title, too? Grand Inquisitor of the White Dragon sounds awesome. Make it so. All kidding aside, if you think I’m racist or think that I’m poisoning the discussion: call the moderator to set me straight or ignore my posts. Frankly, I’m praying you do both.
(bolding mine)
Exactly so. My observation that everyone is on Bricker’s dick isn’t a dig at **Bricker **but at the dig at the slobbers.
And another thing on this point. Isn’t it funny how this message board every fucking month has a thread about how stupid black people and/or the inferiority of black people. Where’s your outrage? Where’s your scorn? Don’t preach to me about being hateful like the KKK on SDMB when this message board exercises fucking hate against black people every goddamned month in Great Debates.
Bullshit. No-one here is happy Martin was shot, and I’ve repeatedly said it’s a tragedy. That I consider that he brought said tragedy on himself doesn’t make it any less tragic.
Judging by this quote, you are a disgusting racist, and the only one I’ve seen in this thread.
Are you aware Bricker is not white? I imagine he would disagree with you to some extent.
I will certainly agree that the application of the law in the US is often racially biased, and that is also a tragedy. But often isn’t always, and doesn’t allow us to claim that in any situation involving people of different skin colours, the paler one is always guilty. You are doing that, and that is just as bad as the more traditional form of prejudice. In short, this case needs to be judged on the evidence available, and the laws on the books. Not by morality, not by reference to past or present injustice, and certainly not by anyone’s prejudice.
It is my opinion, exhaustively argued over several months, that Zimmerman is innocent of any crime. It may interest you to know that, when I first heard about this case, I thought he was probably guilty, and it’s finding out more about the facts of the case and the law of Florida that changed my mind.
You’re free to have that opinion. Frankly, it’s a gift to get that opinion from Doper now-a-days. The newer the better. I’m sure I’ll see you in Great Debates soon.
(bolding mine)
Do you believe I believe Zimmerman is guilty because he is paler?
wow. You’re doing it again. you’re projecting what I think or should have thought and said about something I haven’t read or commented on. you couldn’t be more judgmental if this was a contest.
Yes. You think white people think black people are animals. You think Zimmerman must have been out to hunt down and kill a nigger, because that’s what you think white people want to do.
You are wrong, obviously. So wrong, I can only suggest you seek psychiatric help.
