He wasn’t arrested for entering his own home. He was arrested for being uncooperative or mouthing off to police that showed up to investigate someone breaking into a house.
Shooting the shit with some virtual chocolate milk? At least until the civil suit is filed.
Zimmerman wasn’t following anyone when Trayvon took off running. He was parked on the side of the road talking to dispatch, so Trayvon didn’t take off running because he was being followed.Showing no fear he if he approached the vehicle. Apparently Martin took off running because Zimmerman was on the phone. According to multiple witnesses, the confrontation begin west of the T, than moved south. If Zimmerman parked his vehicle near the path leading to the T, It would have been roughly a fifteen to twenty second walk back to the truck, if that’s where the confrontation begin. You can tell Zimmerman stopped when the dispatcher suggested he do so. His breathinmg was normal, no wind noise, just a casual conversation. That’s four minutes, plus two minutes of nothing. There is no empirical evidence that Zimmerman continued to follow Martin. You have his alleged girlfriend’s account, but if you believe that, Trayvon is a racist, and thought Zimmerfman was going to rape him.
.
Not the outcome of the case, the outcome of the events. Perhaps the 911 operator gives him good advice that results in a positive outcome, instead of a confrontation.
I was struck by the the idea that he may have felt (rationally or irrationally) that he couldn’t rely on the police for help, but that their help could have saved his life.
This IS a societal problem, Terr, you can’t have a sizable proportion of your populace distrust the police. There are community outreach programs to try and promote the idea that the police are there to help, not to hassle. If the police are going to be effective, they need to do some PR in areas where their image is less than stellar.
Works for me.
If George Zimmerman couldn’t be arsed to follow the good advice he was given and can be given a pass for it, then Trayvon Martin shouldn’t be held to a higher expectation.
He wasn’t held to a higher expectation. He was held to the same expectation as Zimmerman - obey the law. Zimmerman did; Martin didn’t.

You know, every one of these Martin/Zimmerman posts are just getting so stupid! On each side, there are the absolute defenders of their guy and their guy is absolutely an angel who could have done nothing wrong.
That isn’t how life works people. GZ probably acted based on a faulty set of premises assuming that TM was a burglar. He may have followed TM and may have run his mouth a little too much. That kind of thing isn’t a lot to expect out of a guy already pissed about burglaries in the neighborhood.
At the SAME TIME, TM probably didn’t act a perfect angel and probably acted like a 17 year old - stupid.
They both acted stupid and neither thought that it would lead to a shooting.
I have no evidence that GZ laid a hand on TM. I do have evidence that a jury thought was compelling enough to believe GZ had a reasonable fear for his life. I do not think that either person was completely at fault and most likely BOTH could have de-escalated. Neither did and that is the tragedy.
I am stunned by the eloquence and close reasoning of your rebuttal.

What the hell are you talking about? There is no evidence that Trayvon did not follow the law; he had no duty to retreat when being threatened by Zimmerman and was within his rights to physically stand his ground. The law that got Zimmerman off also covers Trayvon. How the hell did Trayvon not follow the law?
And again, I think Zimmerman should have been acquitted with the way the law is written, but if Trayvon shot Zimmerman, he should also most likely been acquitted. The law is stupid and you are completely full of SHIT trying to pin this entirely on Trayvon Martin, a teenager who had done nothing wrong up until the time he was physically confronted by Zimmerman.
Bullshit indeed!
Florida Cops Choke Black Teen Holding Puppy Over ‘Dehumanizing Stares’.
“Abusive” in this context amounts to “being black”.
By attacking Zimmerman, breaking his nose, knocking him down, and bashing his head on the ground. There’s no evidence that Zimmerman threatened Martin or attacked him in a way that would justify the use of deadly force by Martin.
SYG didn’t really enter into it. You can’t claim SYG as a defense when you are committing a forcible felony like assault and battery, or assault with intent to kill, and Zimmerman was physically prevented from retreating by Martin sitting on his chest.

There is evidence that Trayvon did not follow the law: Zimmerman’s broken nose.
There is evidence that Zimmerman did not follow the law: dead teenager.
Does anybody have any rational reasoning why Trayvon Martin would have attacked George Zimmerman? Any cases you know of where a teenager attacked a strange man he thought was following him? Did any of you ever attack a strange man who was following you when you were a teenager? Why on earth do any of you think that Trayvon Martin attacked George Zimmerman?
You do know that Bricker was waiting for that comment and he’s now going to post a condescending explanation of self-defense, right?
And an impartial jury examined all the evidence and found that Zimmerman was not guilty of violating any law, including the laws against murder and manslaughter.

First, how do you know they were impartial?
Second, I responded to Bricker’s post stating that there was evidence that Martin didn’t follow the law. The same logic shows that Zimmerman didn’t follow the law.
Third, the jury’s verdict does not address these issues directly, it merely states that Zimmerman was not convicted for any violation of the law, and says nothing about Trayvon.
Luckily, my opinions are not bound by a jury’s findings.
