Marvel announces Inhumans TV series on ABC

Apparently there’s going to be an Inhumans TV series next season on ABC, kicked off by the first two episodes presented in IMax theaters next summer. The royal family will be involved, which probably means no Inhumans movie.

I gotta admit, this leaves me a bit unexcited. I’ve never much cared for the Inhuman royal family, and doing it on TV sounds like a bunch of drama and intrigue rather than superheroics.

Although it’d be pretty neat to see them try to do Lockjaw.

Interesting that will be a show called “Inhumans” while there is also one called “Humans”.

We can only hope that they are slotted against each other.

Way back when I was a comic book kid in the 80s I was strictly Marvel. The Inhumans were just about my least favorite part of the Marvel Universe. In AoS they do a pretty good job as being a stand-in for mutants. I’ll give it a shot but I see how it can go very wrong.

and don’t attempt a crossover episode.

I might be mistaken, but I think the Inhumans movie was already taken off the MCU release schedule when they added Spider-man to the lineup.

I’d rather see Agent Carter come back than an Inhumans series, but I’ll give it a chance.

It was removed from the Phase Three schedule, but Feige insisted they’d still make it in Phase Four. Guess not anymore.

Marvel’s big announcement about The Inhumans came pretty much out of nowhere, and as a result, we have no idea about the producers, cast, or directors. However, The Hollywood Reporter now has some additional details, including specifically how many episodes the show is going to run for on ABC.

We already know that the first two instalments will premiere in IMAX theaters, but the trade reports that after those air on the network, they’ll be followed by a subsequent six episodes. This being an eight part series makes sense, and as a result, it will have the same episode count as the first season of Agent Carter and The Defenders. They also note that The Inhumans is, “not a spinoff of Marvel drama Agents of SHIELD.” With that in mind, we probably shouldn’t expect to see that show’s Inhumans!

Considering the fact that the show is going to revolve around Black Bolt and his royal family, that’s not exactly a huge surprise. The New York Times meanwhile also sheds some light on things by confirming that the show will be co-financed by IMAX (a first for the company), something which is going to mean it, “will include cinema-quality visual effects” with imagery “enhanced due to Imax technology.”

When this news broke, I wondered if it might be a prequel of sorts explaining the role on The Inhumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thousands of years ago, but the site adds that it will be set in the present day and that we’ll see at least some of the action play out on the Moon.

I wonder if this was some sort of compromise deal between Feige and Perlmutter.

Like “You can do the main Inhumans on TV but hands off ________ because we have plans”

I thought Vin Diesel had hinted he’d been tapped to play Black Bolt - nonspeaking part to match his voicework at Groot. Wonder how that’ll settle out - can’t see they paying him for tv, it’d make the show too expensive. But they’ve got to keep him happy for the Guardians cash haul…

After reading some of the responses here I guess I’m in the minority. The Inhumans, strange beings within the royal/realm environment could be an incredible show full of intrigue, back stabbing and violence, kind of like a network version of Game of Thrones. I like that all of Marvel characters aren’t superheroes.
I like the differences.

Interesting. I’d say if they’re going to put the Royal Family on TV, then an Inhumans movie isn’t just pushed back, it’s officially dead.

I heard the Inhumans was the idea of the former Marvel CEO, but when Feige got control of the MCU he dumped the idea to stick it to his formal rival and went with Captain Marvel instead.
