Mary Hansen of Stereolab, dead at 36

Mary Hansen, the etherial singer for Stereolab, was killed on Monday. Apparently, she was riding her bike in London when a car hit her.

I just recently (in the last two years) discovered Stereolab. I got into them because I was listening to Yo La Tengo and a friend said “if you like them, you should hear Stereolab!” I was supposed to see them at All Tomorrow’s Parties in LA last March, but I lost my job and couldn’t afford the trip anymore. Now I guess I won’t ever get to see them!

What a bummer. A tragic, stupid accident takes a great talent from us.

Although I’m not too familiar with their music, I do remember their song from the awesome High Fidelity soundtrack.

RIP.

Never heard of her, but what a shame all the same. Here’s a link to her Billboard obit.

Oh my. Oh my.

That’s very sad.

I’ve seen Stereolab live a few times. I’m sad you didn’t get the chance to. Perhaps Tim and Laetitia will carry on. Mary’s voice and Laetitia’s voice sounded so good together.

This is sad news, I think I’ll listen to all of their records (that I have) tonight. Mary’s voice was truly beautiful.

RIP sweet songbird :frowning:
I wonder if she was wearing her helmut?
I guess it too late now…:frowning:

Oh no :frowning:

That’s awful news. Another great talent lost :frowning:

I’ve seen Stereolab 4 or 5 times. They are perhaps my favorite band.

The best show I have ever seen, bar none, was their 1996 Halloween show at Austin’s Liberty Lunch with Ui. I have followed the band closely since 1993. Indeed a sad day. I’m listening to Cobra and Phases Group Played Into the Milky Night right now as a tribute. And I was just listening to sound-dust in the car this morning and thinking how well her voice went with the music…
