I find freemasonry fascinating. I am not sure why, but ever since I was about 16 and found out that my Mothers grandfathers going back several generations had been masons I have been fascinated by it. I am now in my early 20s and have done lots of reading on freemasonry and am going back and forth in my own head about joining (or requesting to join, I suppose there isn’t really any guarantee that they will take me). My big hold back is that I don’t actually know any masons personally. Masonry SOUNDS good, but I am not sure how to go about talking to some masons to find out if the people that are actually members are the type of people I would want to be brothers with. This is made more difficult because I am not 100% sure what it means to be a brother. I assume that each lodge has its own personality, but if I am going to join the masons I would hope that there were people I could relate to in the lodge. Mostly I am worried that if I go to a lodge I will find it populated primarily by conservative octogenarians. I get the feeling that the number of masons under the age of 50 is very small, and maybe that is a good thing, but I am not sure. I feel that there is probably a lodge out there for me, but am not sure how to go about finding it, then again maybe I am looking at this whole thing from the wrong perspective.
I am not sure what my question actually is, I guess I just want more information and am running out of resources to answer the questions I don’t know I have. If you are a mason and can figure out the rambling mess I have written in this post, I would like to hear what you have to say.
