Now, that is not to say, of course, that most Muslims are hate-filled murderous people. Of course they are not. But moderate civilized Muslims (i.e. the vast majority) reach their more enlightened positions by embracing secular moral standards and simply ignoring the outrageously barbaric tenets of their faith that are clearly stated in their holy book. This is why widespread moderate religion can be dangerous: if a huge number of people still pay lip service to a barbaric book such as the Koran (or the Bible), there is a danger that some small minority might actually read the book and start taking it seriously.
sigh As opposed to the utterly peaceful holy book of the Christians, in which no one is ever stoned, blinded, torn apart by bears, or generally smote for failing to believe the right things.

VICE has been keeping track of things this year with their Mass Shooting Tracker. This one jumps the US body count way up for 2016; IIRC this was almost half as many people as had been killed previously in 2016 in mass shootings.
And the Bible is just filled with passages about slaughtering non believers.

I think the problem is with religious fundamentalists. Any religion. When I point out to hard cord Christians that hard core Muslims share their beliefs about women, abortion and gays, they act extremely surprised. Like the thought had never occurred to them.
