Yes, at least I thought I did. I encouraged it every time it came up.
Did this email just come up now? That seems very late in the game for it. The most recent time I played, that email was sent well before the Cerberus coup attempt. I’m not sure what triggers it, though. (Unless you’re referring to a different special project email.)
Since you’re far enough in the game. I can’t remember, did you go to Grissom Academy before the Cerberus coup happened and meet up with Jack?
Yes, quite awhile ago.
I beat Mass Effect 3 today and I honestly absolutely loved the ending. I know a lot of criticism was thrown at it, but I think they nailed it. I’ll give an overview of my ending.
- I jumped into the Crucible
- Everyone was merged with Synthetics and glowed/shined
- Words were being rebuilt
- Liara left roses at a grave
- EDI narrated an overview of life post-Shepard and was thankful to be alive and not alone
I might be a big sap, but I found the ending fantastic. Actually, it was one of the more moving ending I’ve seen in a video game. When the message popped up from the production team at the end thanking players for playing, even that was kind of emotional. They did such a great job.
I have no complaints about the ending. Zero. Loved it and was totally satisfied.
It took about 80 hours for me to play the series.
My criticism of the “synthesis” ending is that they could have foreshadowed it more as a possibility before the last 5 minutes of the game where it kind of comes out of nowhere. They were also pretty vague on how it was supposed to work (there’s a wave of energy and then leaves turn into circuit boards?).
Oddly enough, I thought the “control” ending was the most satisfying (in the extended cut, at any rate).
I need a break for now, but I do need to go watch the other choices.
75-80 hours in three weeks was a lot of gaming for me. It’s just a game series, but it was emotionally exhausting in many ways.
I could see playing again, but not for awhile. A full renegade, male Shepard who romances other characters like Tali would be interesting. I’d hate to see all the negative consequences that I avoided actually happen.
Anderson did die at the end of my playthrough. I didn’t push the button to shoot Illusive Man before he killed him. I messed something up with Kelly Chambers at some point because I heard an announcement that she had died as well. I did visit her down a the refugee camp…
Hey, so who was the Illusive Man? I mean, did we ever find out who he was? I expected him to look different than his hologram and I also wondered if he was even human. When he came out at the end, he was just…the same dude we saw via hologram.
I think you have to warn Kelly to change her identity to get her to survive.
Did you play through the little mission with Conrad Verner and Jenna (from ME 1)? I was genuinely touched that even a silly joke character from the original game got his own “moment of awesome” (sort of).
As far as romances go, my favourite romance from ME 3 is Samantha Traynor, not least because you get to romance her relatively early in the game and she has quite a few unique lines after missions.
Remind me.
Some medigel dispensers in the refugee camp are being sabotaged. Conrad Verner (Shepard’s biggest superfan from ME 1 and ME 2) is recruiting for Cerberus because Shepard used to be a member. Shepard tells him to stop and in return Conrad identifies the Cerberus agent who did the sabotage. The Cerberus agent tries to shoot Shepard but Conrad jumps in the way of the bullet! But in a surprise twist, the Cerberus agent’s gun had been sabotaged by…Jenna (the girl working undercover at Chora’s Den in ME 1).
Ah, I do remember Conrad but alas, he is in my “missed it” category in terms of quests. I take it he recurs multiple times through the series? I never saw him after he first stopped me in the hallway at the Citadel in game 1.
I love that they edited the game in such a way that they could insert and delete any character along the way.
I guess I should seek out the ME3 ending if you get everyone killed in ME2.
Which squadmates can NOT die no matter how crappy you choose to act? Liara? EDI?
You always get Liara, Vega and EDI. I suppose you can kill EDI off at the very end by choosing the “destroy” ending (which also murders the geth, unfortunately).
If you interact in the right way with Conrad Verner in ME 1, he shows up in ME 2 pretending to be a human Spectre investigating red sand dealers in Ilium (but in reality he’s being duped by an asari shop owner). His best line is when he sheepishly admits: “Sometimes I go poking through crates for extra credits.”
Right, and you always get Ashey or Kaiden. Can they die at some point in ME3? Does Ashley/Kaiden die if I don’t visit them at the hospital?
Deaths I saw as permanent/unavoidable:
- Thane
- Kaiden/Ashley in game 1
Does Anderson survive if I was quicker shooting Illusive man? Who else always dies?
Who was Illusive Man???
Not if you shoot them while they’re protecting Udina and the rest of the council (which is one possibility).
Former President.
I guess there’s a comic mini-series called Mass Effect: Evolution that goes into the Illusive Man’s history. I haven’t read it, though.
What?
Nope, Anderson dies regardless, add him to the list.
Illusive Man is a no one. I’ve read the aforementioned prequel comic and he was just a soldier who saw some bad ish from Saren and firsthand indoctrination and decided to do something about it. His real name is Jack Harper, but I like calling him TIM (The Illusive Man).
I’m glad you enjoyed the game! It was certainly fun watching along as you played.
BTW, the reason I asked about Jack earlier is if you wait too long to do that mission (the coup) it disappears. Then, at the very end of the game when you’re fighting through Cerberus headquarters and you’re in the same room as the proto-reaper, you face a phantom that’s named Jack (I also think a squadmate comments on it). Apparently if you give Leigon to cerberus in ME2 you face him as well.
I gave the collector ship to Illusive Man at the end of ME2. How did this impact my ME3 experience? I noticed nothing.
