Which should I get? I’m sure the XBox360 version will look better, since my PC’s video card is decent but not exceptional, but I don’t mind cutting back on graphics for an overall superior gaming experience. Does the PC version have more and/or better content? Better controls? Is it moddable, like Oblivion?
What type of Video card do you have? The XBOX 360 is 5 year odl hardware, unless your card is too, odds are it will look better on PC.
The PC has a redesigned GUI which allows you to tackle combat in two different methods. the XBOX did this too, but the PC improves upon both methods considerably.
You can run and gun, essentially taking point and playing it like Gears of War. You can do this in a more fuild fashion on the PC since you can now attach powers to your number keys. In the XBOX you HAD to pause the game to activate a power.
You can also play it more tactically, giving your squad commands to take point, flank ro take cover. This is a much more enjoyable prospect on the PC simply because you can give movement and tacticla commands to each squad member individually. You can’t do that on the XBOX.
Finally, the mouse and keyboard setup is just superior to the joypad, hands down in shooters. However, this is an RPG, so with auto aim in the XBOX (cheese) and the fact that skills improve your ability to hit and damage opponets I gotta call a tie on this one just in terms of difficulty. Of course when you bring in the hotkeys to the equation, keyboard and mouse wins out anyway.
Aside form the gui improvements and improvements to the MAKO controls, as well as higher resolution graphics and textures, the game is exactly the same as the XBOX. The PC does get the Bring Down The Sky downloadble content for free (should be out later this week).
GeForce 7600GT. It’s, what, three years old? I bought it fairly recently to replace a dying card, so I didn’t buy it when it first came out. I had to put Bioshock on medium graphics and turn off a few other things like shadows and distortion to play at an acceptable framerate.
Hmm, if you had a 7800 I’d say go for it. The 7600 GT though was on the low end three years ago. If you don’t plan on spending $100 to $150 for a new vid card I’d say you’ll probably have a much better graphics experience on the XBOX.
This game however, is less demanding the Bioshock, for whatever it’s worth.
Mmmh, but somewhat more CPU intensive.
Hmm, I have a Radeon X1800XTX of the same vintage and I’m playing Mass Effect PC at max settings 1280x1024–it’s not really intensive at all unless you have shadows on, and they look like anus anyway.
for reference, also running a Athlon x2 4200, 2GB ram, 64-bit XP.
No, I’m going to wait until closer to Fallout 3’s release date and do a full mobo/CPU/video upgrade.
Between the posts here and Gamespy’s review of the PC version, which specifically called out the SecuROM copy protection, I’m still not certain. Maybe I’ll just get Overlord through Steam first and think about it more.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
