Massage therapy and the after-feeling

I got a massage yesterday. A massage is always wonderful, and this one was the more so because it was administered by a beautiful long-haired Vietnamese-American woman with a pierced nose and a leg tattoo who I’m thinking of asking out.

But nevermind that. Afterward she told me I needed to increase my fluid intake for a while in order to flush the “toxins” released by the massage.

Now, since I’ve read this thread I know the stuff about toxins is pretty much silliness. But I did feel a sort of relaxed malaise afterward, similar to what I feel when I’m dehydrated or after giving blood.

Why would I be dehydrated? I wasn’t really exercising, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t sweat. In fact, I’d even venture that the massage oils she used temporarily clogged my pores, so I lost less fluid than I normally would.

So what’s going on?

Just because you felt the same sort of “relaxed malaise”, a kind of lightheadedness, after the massage that you do after giving blood doesn’t mean that you were dehydrated. Giving blood doesn’t dehydrate you that much, for one thing.

Do you feel thirsty after giving blood?

Anyway, you probably weren’t dehydrated after the massage, she just says that to everybody because she knows people like to worry about themselves. “Oh, no, I might be dehydrated, I’d better buy some of that special $1.99 athletic beverage…”

So don’t worry about it. Now, tell us some more about that leg tattoo…

Duck Duck Goose:

You know, I don’t really remember what it was shaped like. Obviously I need to go get another massage and take a closer look.
